Gathering together at Nikki Peltier’s house, the members of Arsenal, UWA World Champion Jeszika Gautier, UWA World Tag Team Champions Bethany Kenyon and Ashley Kenyon and the owner of the house, Nikki Peltier, gather in the living room to go over their various business interests together. As usual, Nikki leads these discussions, going over money and other related details. After a couple of hours, Nikki closes the books and nods to her friends.
Nikki Peltier: Ok, we can go out now. The Red Hoods are playing at Prey tonight so…
Ashley’s eyes light up like a little kid on Christmas.
Ashley Kenyon: We get to go down to Prey tonight?
Bethany starts to nod.
Bethany Kenyon: Yes, but…
Ashley jumps up and down happily.
Ashley Kenyon: WooHOOOOOOO!!!!
Bethany watches her little sister exploding with excitement and can’t decide if she wants to pause this level of happiness or not. As Bethany decides within herself whether she should lay down the guidelines, their friends, Nikki Peltier and Jeszika Gautier, walk into the room. Seeing Ashley bouncing up and down happily, they can’t help but smile.
Nikki Peltier: You told her, didn’t you?
Bethany nods.
Jeszika Gautier: Then what are we waiting for?
Bethany Kenyon: Don’t we need to set some parameters first?
Ashley stops bouncing and frowns in confusion.
Ashley Kenyon: Parameters?
Bethany nods almost guiltily for harshing her sister’s buzz.
Bethany Kenyon: Ground rules…
Ashley shakes her head for a second before turning to Nikki and Jeszika.
Ashley Kenyon: What is she talking about?
Nikki shrugs.
Nikki Peltier: I think she’s talking about… restrictions.
Jeszika starts to say something against it but stops, thinks about it and nods her agreement to the idea.
Jeszika Gautier: What you got in mind?
Bethany takes in a deep breath, knowing her sister’s first instinct is not going to be pleasant if this isn’t presented properly.
Bethany Kenyon: We’re going to a bar where we usually party… and you’re trying to stop, right?
Jeszika nods, dawning comprehension seemingly hitting everyone else at once.
Jeszika Gautier: Yeah, I have stopped.
Ashley nods slowly.
Ashley Kenyon: And you think we should all agree to sort of back off so as not to hurt that with her?
She pauses and then nods acknowledgingly.
Ashley Kenyon: And because it’d be kind of douchebaggy to get loaded and shove it in her face when she’s making this great effort to… not?
Bethany nods.
Bethany Kenyon: Yes.
Ashley starts to nod but bethany raises a hand to slow her down.
Bethany Kenyon: I’m not saying you can’t have anything or even that you can’t have everything you like…
Ashley nods slowly.
Ashley Kenyon: Just not in front of Jezzy?
Jeszika smiles gratefully.
Jeszika Gautier: Thank you, B, I appreciate it.
Bethany nods.
Bethany Kenyon: Whatcha think?
Nikki nods.
Nikki Peltier: I’m in.
Ashley nods.
Ashley Kenyon: Me too and, Jezzy…
She turns back to Jeszika.
Ashley Kenyon: I’m sorry I didn’t think of that…
Jeszika smiles at Ashley, looking quite sisterly in the process.
Jeszika Gautier: It’s ok, Ash, I didn’t think of it either.
Ashley hugs Jeszika and the four head out to the bar. As they step from the car, they all stare at their usual haunt.
Bethany Kenyon: Are you ready for this, Jez?
Jeszika hesitates then nods.
Jeszika Gautier: Yeah I'm ready, are you?
Bethany nods, taking a deep breath.
Bethany Kenyon: As I’m gonna be… but if you guys hear me ordering more than beer, cut me off and make me go home. Deal?
Jeszika does not hesitate.
Jeszika Gautier: Deal.
Nikki joins in, nodding her agreement.
Nikki Peltier: Deal.
Ashley hesitates and Bethany nods to her sister.
Bethany Kenyon: You too, Ash.
Ashley nods.
Ashley Kenyon: Deal.
Smiling, Jeszika points to the building.
Jeszika Gautier: Let’s go.
The four walk inside and look around. Nikki wanders over to a table and makes sure she has a good view for the Red Hoods when they play, eager to see her boyfriend, Red Hoods guitarist and frontman Richie Damian, in action on his home turf again. Bethany follows her while Ashley and Jeszika walk over to the bar where they find Bethany’s now ex-girlfriend, Carrie Winter, leaning down over something just behind the bar. She pops back upright sniffing hard, cocaine powder readily visible on a small mirror in front of her.
Carrie Winter: Hey…
Jeszika pauses in her steps seeing the cocaine, but steels herself.
Jeszika Gautier: Hey, Carrie.
Carrie sniffs hard, blinking her eyes slightly.
Carrie Winter: What can I get you guys tonight?
Feeling the slight pull, Jeszika grits her teeth slightly hoping no one will notice.
Jeszika Gautier: Just a juice for me.
Carrie can’t help but chuckle slightly.
Carrie Winter: Really hittin hard, are ya? Orange, apple or cranberry?
Ashley nods.
Ashley Kenyon: Couple of Cokes and a Sprite right now, I think we’re trying to stay sober for Richie and Jezzy’s trying to stop.
Carrie stands there for a second dumbfounded before looking down at her powder.
Carrie Winter: Oh God, I’m sorry…
She quickly moves it away even as Ashley stares at it like it’s the nectar of the gods calling to her from the abyss. Jeszika takes Ashley’s hand in hers.
Jeszika Gautier: Ashley... please don't...
Ashley nods to Jeszika as Carrie stares at them, visibly confused.
Ashley Kenyon: Promised I wouldn’t in front of her tonight.
Carrie nods, sniffing and rubbing her nose a little.
Carrie Winter: How’s that working out?
Jeszika shrugs, still smiling through it all.
Jeszika Gautier: She hasn’t broken that promise yet, so going well I'd say.
Nodding, Carrie starts filling the order.
Carrie Winter: And how are you doing, Jezzy?
Jeszika Gautier: Getting better, counsellings going well. Got reinstated at work last week. So that’s a bonus.
Carrie nods, bringing over the drinks.
Carrie Winter: And you and Billy?
Ashley smiles.
Ashley Kenyon: We’re doing better now than ever. He’s been struggling a little with what the meth did to him and I’ve had to wonder what’s going on with my head because that bastard V. Jones used loaded gloves on me but…
She shrugs and Carrie nods again.
Carrie Winter: How’s Bethy?
Jeszika Gautier: She's good, she's here if you want to... you know... talk.
Carrie looks over towards the table before looking away.
Carrie Winter: I don’t know if that’s such a good idea yet.
Ashley pats Carrie’s hand.
Ashley Kenyon: She still loves you, Carrie.
Carrie nods sadly, her eyes practically glued to the bar.
Carrie Winter: I… I know...
Jeszika Gautier: Whenever you're ready, you should talk to her. Even if you can't be lovers, I think You'd make great friends. But only when you're both ready.
Taking a minute to compose herself, Carrie nods before looking up.
Carrie Winter: Do you guys know why... why she couldn't...
Jeszika cocks her head.
Jeszika Gautier: Why she couldn’t what?
Carrie shrugs, visibly fighting off tears.
Carrie Winter: Pick me?
Jeszika frowns cocking her head a little.
Jeszika Gautier: What do you mean?
Ashley’s eyes go wide as her jaw hits the proverbial floor.
Ashley Kenyon: That’s why y’all broke up?
Carrie nods.
Ashley Kenyon: Damn.
Confused, Jeszika looks from carrie to Ashley and then back to Carrie.
Jeszika Gautier: Wait... who did she pick?
Carrie’s voice comes back small and weak.
Carrie Winter: Everyone else...
Jeszika’s eyes narrow.
Jeszika Gautier: Is that what she said?
Carrie just shoots her a sad, mournful, teary-eyed look.
Jeszika Gautier: Care... I know it’s hard, you probably feel like a part of your heart has been ripped out, I've been there too... but you can get through this.
Carrie barely nods.
Carrie Winter: Can I ask… how did you get over…
She nods to Bethany without looking at her.
Carrie Winter: Her?
Jeszika cocks her head.
Jeszika Gautier: Get over her? After Reno?
Carrie nods.
Jeszika Gautier: I just accepted that she didn’t want anything, and moved on. I used distractions like work to help me forget and eventually it worked, then I met Melissa and I was happy... I'm not saying jumping into bed with someone else is the way to go, but Melissa, she helped me forget. So did the booze and the drugs, but looking back, they only hide the pain. The counselling is helping too.
Ashley can’t believe her ears.
Ashley Kenyon: Melissa was just a distraction?
Shrugging like she doesn’t know what else to do at the moment, Jeszika sighs mournfully.
Jeszika Gautier: Melissa was a passing dream, one I failed to hold onto. I have faith that someone else will come into both our lives that will make us forget everything. Someone who knows a thousands ways to makes us forget about them...
Carrie nods slowly.
Carrie Winter: And in the meantime?
Jeszika shrugs again.
Jeszika Gautier: We pick ourselves up, smile and tell ourselves everything's gonna be ok, Carrie... cause it will be.
She picks up the drinks and starts back to the table. As she departs, Carrie nods slowly, watching the whole table.
Carrie Winter: Ok.
Ashley nods to Carrie.
Ashley Kenyon: Did you see?
Carrie nods.
Carrie Winter: Yeah.
Finding herself suddenly dry, Ashley quickly takes a sip of her Sprite.
Ashley Kenyon: Is that why you’re hittin’ it heavy?
Carrie swallows hard and then nods.
Ashley Kenyon: You didn’t expect it for real, did you?
Carrie shakes her head.
Ashley Kenyon: If she knew…
Carrie’s eyes go wide as she reaches across the bar to grab Ashley’s hand.
Carrie Winter: No! No, you can’t tell her, Ash! Please…
Ashley stares at Carrie in shock. This was the last thing she expected to hear.
Ashley Kenyon: But she’d…
Carrie nods emphatically.
Carrie Winter: I know, that’s why you can’t tell her!
Ashley glances back and then nods.
Ashley Kenyon: Ok.
Carrie nods gratefully.
Carrie Winter: Are you really not partying anymore?
Ashley shakes her head.
Ashley Kenyon: I’m allow, just not in front of Jezzy.
Carrie holds out her tube.
Carrie Winter: You want some?
Ashley glances back and then quickly agrees, indulging before anyone can see her do it. As she sniffs hard, she hands the tube back and Carrie has herself another little bit before putting it away for a bit.
Ashley Kenyon: Thanks.
Carrie nods.
Carrie Winter: Of course.
As Carrie moves off to take another order, Ashley gets a text on her phone. She smiles as her boyfriend’s message tells her he’ll be here any minute. She pauses, then a smirk breaks out over her face as an idea strikes. She turns on the phone’s camera and swings it around the packed bar.
Ashley Kenyon: Take a good, long look, V.
She moves the camera slowly around to take in the whole of the place.
Ashley Kenyon: This is all your aggression and bullshit got you. This is where I am just a few days before our fight after spending all week training like a maniac.
She allows the camera to fall on Nikki, Bethany and Jeszika at their table.
Ashley Kenyon: I’m out with my family like we always used to. take a good look at that table, V, because there’s two champions and a real business manager sitting there while a third champion holds this camera to let you see what a family unit is supposed to look like. no hangers-on, no wild antics or crazy schemes, no bullshit artists trying to blow smoke up our asses, no crazy significant others making scenes because it’ll get attention. Just four people enjoying themselves together after a hard day’s work.
She moves the camera around so she can look into the lens herself.
Ashley Kenyon: See, I’m still here despite everything you tried to do. On Sunday, I’m still gonna be around too because you couldn’t get the job done. You couldn’t make me quit. Two champions are gonna walk into that ring and fight, V, but only one of us is actually walking in with any respect. See, I know and acknowledge that you’re capable of winning a match. Of course you are or you wouldn’t be a professional, but you refuse to admit I’m anything but a “scrawny bitch.”
She nods, obviously aggravated.
Ashley Kenyon: Well, I might be a scrawny bitch, but I’m one you tried to break twice now and couldn’t and now you have to do it all over again because I’m standing in your way, whether you like it or not!
She swings the camera back around to the table and her three friends.
Ashley Kenyon: You see her, don’t you, Jonesy? You see Jeszika because that’s the one you really want, isn’t she? She’s the UWA World Champion but even more than that, she’s number one. She’s where you want to be, hell, she’s where you think you already should be and damn well deserve to be…
The camera swings back around to face Ashley.
Ashley Kenyon: But you can’t have her yet, V, because while you will cry foul and bitch and scream to the contrary, you don’t deserve her yet! You look at the three of us here, my big sister, Jezzy and me, and you’ve been in the ring with two of us, told the world we were nothing and you’d get rid of us with no trouble.
Shrugging, Ashley shakes her in mock apology.
Ashley Kenyon: Well, Bethy’s still here, I’m still here and more than that, I’m shoving it in your face that we’re both alive, well, active and ready to go and on Sunday, I get to make you choke on your words all over again! What’s your excuse gonna be this time when you can’t break me? How about when you can’t make me say “I quit?” What’s your excuse gonna be if you lose and I make you have to go back home and tell a “mahfucka” that “some scrawny ass bitch” kicked your ass and made you say those words nobody ever thought you’d say?
The camera swings back over to the table.
Ashley Kenyon: I’m keeping you from that, V. I’m standing in your way and you? You proved with those gloves that you’re scared that you’re not the hot shit you think and say you are.
One last time, the camera swings back to Ashley.
Ashley Kenyon: On Sunday, I’m gonna prove to you that I’m not just some scrawny ass bitch, that I’m no bitch at all and you… I’m gonna make you mine!
Nikki Peltier: Ok, we can go out now. The Red Hoods are playing at Prey tonight so…
Ashley’s eyes light up like a little kid on Christmas.
