Standing outside the meeting hall, Sariel finds herself scanning the scene as the other Watchers make their way in from all over the compound, the rank and file Children no longer milling about aimlessly as they normally would. She glances over to the purifying and condition center and nods almost wistfully, wishing for better days when she would constantly find the Father and Mother, Joshua McBride and Maiko Adachi, helping the Children find their way. She shakes her head and turns to the meeting room. Heading inside, she finds Maiko sitting in the corner, watching as the other eight Watchers discuss amongst themselves what is going on.
Samyaza: This is just funny listening to all of you talking like you think he’s coming back! He’s LEFT us!
As Sariel’s gaze moves away from him, she finds the twins arguing all over again.
Ramiel: Her fault!
Ananiel: HIS fault!
Ramiel: HER fault!!!
Ananiel: HIS FAULT!!!
Sariel bits her bottom lip, and watches as the other all engage each other in similar fashion. As she does so, she glances back to see a strange blonde woman she’s never seen before standing in the doorway. She frowns as the woman takes in the entire scene and then promptly walks out. Sariel walks over to the corner, where Maiko has been watching as well.
Sariel: Mother, who was that?
Maiko stares out the door, seemingly confused.
Maiko Adachi: I do not know.
As Sariel nods slowly, Maiko follows out the door, leaving the Nine alone in their argument. Was that a mask the woman was wearing? It looked almost porcelain, like a doll and gave Sariel a strange feeling, once she wasn’t sure she liked and yet one that was not unfamiliar. As she slowly turns back to face the table, Ramiel, Arakiel, Satariel and Armaros on the left, Ananiel, Turiel, Tamiel and Samyaza on the right, she watches as they continue to argue with each other.
Ramiel: Her fault!
Ananiel: HIS fault!
Ramiel: HER fault!!!
Ananiel: HIS FAULT!!!
Sariel sighs heavily and walks to the head of the table.
Samyaza: He’s NOT coming back!
Armaros: He never left! We drove him away!
Sariel shakes her head and then pounds on the table loudly, gaining the silence and attention of everyone else in the room in the process.
Sariel: Did any of you see the blonde woman by the door?
The other eight all look to each other and shake their heads.
Sariel: That’s what I thought, and how about Mother? Were any of you aware that we were in her presence? That she had decided to come in here and embrace us all despite all we have done or were you all so wrapped up in proving yourself to the one next to you that you failed to notice she was amongst us?
Turiel and Tamiel both look over by the door.
Turiel: She was here?
Sariel nods, pointing to the corner Maiko had once stood in only a few minutes previous.
Sariel: Right there.
She waves her hand around the table.
Sariel: She stood in that very corner as all of you spent your time arguing about why Father is no longer among us and why Mother spends all of her time having to do things he used to do! Yes, there has been a division between them and yes, it has caused us all to be feel things we did not wish to feel. And, yes, some of us feel like more could have been done by one side or another but we ALL just blatantly ignored her! And we ALL disregarded whoever the new one was that was reaching out.
The others frown at her and she nods.
Sariel: I do not know what she was reaching out for but more importantly, neither do any of you because none of you even knew she was here, in our sanctuary, breathing the same air we all do. Those of you who think Mother has overstepped her bounds and failed us by doing what she has done, Ramiel, Arakiel, Satariel, Armaros, and those of you who feel Father deserves what has befallen him because he has failed us all, Ananiel, Turiel, Tamiel, Samyaza, all of you have failed just as much as either of them have! Who are WE to judge them? They are Father and Mother to us, we are but their Children! Where would any of us be without them?
She looks around the table and sees eight suddenly guilt-ridden and ashamed faces.
Sariel: Ramiel, Ananiel…
Both: Yes, Sister?
She softens and nods to them.
Sariel: Rami, you once loved Mother above all, has she not always cared for you when you needed it?
Ramiel nods and Sariel wheels on his twin.
Sariel: Naani, you once lived to do Father’s will, had he not always done for you what he said he would do for you?
Ananiel nods and Sariel nods.
Sariel: Red, Blackie, has Father not always stood by Thirteen even as you both seemed to question why had been chosen for that mark?
Arakiel and Turiel nod.
Sariel: Has Mother not always guided you in the proper path?
They both nod again.
Sariel: Tami, Sati, Ari, Sami, when you stood out from the flock, did the Father not save you from the culling?
The four of them nod ashamedly.
Sariel: Did Mother not mold you so that you could help with the Watching?
They all not again.
Sariel: Can any here right now truly say that either of them have betrayed their teachings?
All eight pause to ponder this and then they all shake their heads.
Sariel: Can any here right now say that we have gone without because of either Father or Mother and anything one or both of them has done?
All eight shake their heads again and Sariel nearly falls to her knees.
Sariel: Then why are we fighting amongst ourselves? Why do we spend hours upon hours of every day arguing over who is right and who is wrong if none of us really believe we have been wronged that way?
She paused and shakes her head sadly.
Sariel: Brothers and Sisters, we should be holding together and making sure that while the Shepherd is away, the flock is not stricken by outside forces! We should be holding true to each other and forming a stronger united bond that can never be broken, a covenant that shows that we, the Bene Elohim are, indeed, worthy of having been chosen for our positions!
The other eight not slowly.
Sariel: Arakiel and Turiel, you are the rock and the earth of our Father and upon you he has chosen to build his Church! Show that you are worthy of the call!
Arakiel: Yes, Sister.
Turiel: Yes, Sister.
Sariel: Tamiel, Satariel, you are his dawn and his perfection! You were called to lead those who are new to the flock along the path to purification! Show that you are worthy of the call!
Tamiel: Yes, Sister.
Satariel: : Yes, Sister.
Sariel: Armaros and Samyaza, you are his curse and his strife! You are that which keeps us all together and strong! Show that you are worthy of the call!
Armaros: Yes, Sister.
Samyaza: Yes, Sister.
Sariel: Ramiel, Ananiel, you are the storm ahead of the light! You were chosen to lead his army and fight the battles that needed to be fought! it is you who were chosen to take down the Arsenal, to bleed Aerynn Donnelly of her sanity, to remove the Sentinel from our path and to drag Broderick Montgomry to his own personal hell! Now you are called on to seek vengeance against the Sin City Knights… do you answer the call?
Ramiel and Ananiel nod.
Both: Yes, Sister.
Sariel: For the sake of the call have we been judged, for the sake of the call, shall we charge forward and for the sake of the call shall we hold together until Father and Mother deem us worthy of togetherness again!
