::Kyle Travis stands on a balcony overlooking Santa Barbara, CA where the latest episode of Monday Night Mayhem is to take place. He looks out over the city as night falls upon it.::
::He does not turn away from the city of the encroaching darkness.::
“If there is one thing I am certain of, it is that neither Georgio Oliver, nor his plucky and chubby sidekick, nor the so-called director of security, really seem to have no idea what the hell they are doing.”
“I think it was all that crap Georgio was going about how Aerynn Donnelly was such a great champion that really just got to me Quentin. And then to see him suspend Jeszika Gautier, for keeping a hold on longer than she should have and everyone treating it like the worst thing a person has ever done to another human being in the entire history of the world, was just stupid.”
::Travis rubs his forehead and then slides his hands down his face, shaking his head.::
“First of all, Aerynn Donnelly was NOT a great champion. She did NOT represent this company as a respectable champion nor did she carry the title with pride and honor. The fact of the matter is she was only champion for so long because no one seems to remember that titles actually need to be defended. She defended the title a total of three times since she won it months ago, and those defenses were early in her reign. I admit, they were all victories and she did defend the title successfully, but it seemed like she needed to be forced to defend it rather than want to defend the title.”
“When the belt was stolen, she did not go after Joshua McBride. She did not take the Children of Nephilim apart until she reclaimed what they had stolen from her. She did not even call out McBride to engage him in battle. Instead, she whined and cried and threw a temper tantrum like a child, threatening to quit if the UWA did not get the title back for her. No one seems to mind that this woman, supposedly a proud champion, hyped as a touch as nails fighter suddenly does a complete one eighty and rather than fight, decides to demand someone else do the work or she would quit, leaving the company without its champion. No one seems to have any issue with that except for me, and somehow, we are singing her praises.”
::Travis turns away from the view of the city, facing towards his room.::
“And, then when it comes time to fight, when she should be the one rallying the UWA against the Children of Nephilim, she does nothing. She did absolutely nothing. It was only when Broderick Montgomery III, the man paying her for something, I don’t know what, was abducted, only when it impacted her wallet, then and only then did she fight.”
“She fought, but she never seemed to lead. The moment the UWA needed its world champion to step up and actually lead, she did not. It seemed more like K.I.S.S. and Jeszika Gautier were the ones leading the charge before Broderick Montgomery made his return and is seemingly just focused on the long overdo destruction of the Children of Nephilim. She was not a leader. She was not a savior.”
“Then of course, there was her getting off scot-free after kicking Jamie Hensley in the face. Now I will be the first to admit that I have done a lot of violent and terrible things to announcers, ring personnel, backstage interviewers, but I have never done it while claiming to or hyped be a role model or being hyped as a hero or some great defender. So it is rather something of a double standard that Aerynn got away with no punishment while Jeszika was punished for leaving a hold on too long or that others among us are punished for doing things, but Aerynn, the worst choice for a golden one ever, gets away clean.”
::Travis smirks a little.::
“So no Quentin, while everyone here may disagree or even think it is just me being jealous, I do not consider Aerynn Donnelly a great champion. Now I am not saying she was terrible champion, just not as great a champion as Georgio Oliver would have people believe. She was, however, a far better champion than you or Silver Baron were, but that is not saying much as your title reign was a joke.”
“But of course they will hype you and her as great champions because no wrestling promotion wants to admit that their first champion were losers or should never have been champion. You and Silver Baron held the title for a few weeks, acted like the greatest team off all time, despite refusing challengers and then when it came time to prove you were even half as good as you say you lost to a far better team. But no one else is going to talk about that.”
“And I will be honest, but I do have some doubts about Jeszika Gautier representing the UWA as champion. I mean here is a woman who spent weeks trying to convince people that it was just coincidence that there happen to be two women in New Orleans with the same name who both became wrestlers and used the exact same moves. Let us not forget she did emasculate and humiliate Broderick Montgomery, but felt really bad about it when he got abducted by a hillbilly cult and she only started to fight them when it affected her, not before. She promised to break me, failed, and then seeming got over her anger at me.”
“And they are painting her keeping a hold on after the bell as the greatest atrocity in the history of wrestling. It is good to know that everything I have done was a waste of time when all I needed to do was abduct people and keep holds on after the bell. It’s so good to know that this company has very low standards, because that means I do not have to work as hard as I have been because, like an idiot, I thought this place needed a better class of bad guy. But, if all I had to do was keep holds on after the bell and abduct people, that’d make it so much easier.”
“Jeszika is an emotionally unstable woman who is a pale imitation of someone else who you are not sure if she is going to suddenly go crazy and demand someone’s head or suddenly break down and cry or find something else to keep her busy. So no, I do not think she is going to be a great champion. I do not think she can carry the title with pride and respect. But given Georgio’s questionable decision making, she may not be champion for very long, because clearly, the right call during the middle of a tournament to determine the challenger at Tragic Engagement would be to strip the champion of the title. That makes sense.”
“I do not know who will win this tournament Sharpe. I do not know who will be champion at Tragic Engagement. But the one thing I do know is that I will do whatever I have to do in order to be the man to face the UWA World Heavyweight Champion, whoever it is or if there is even one, at Tragic Engagement.”
“It has been nearly a year since I cam to the Unchained Wrestling Alliance on the promise of getting the respect I have earned and that I deserve. It has been far, far too long since I have had a championship. It has been far too long since I have been a champion. I came here with the goal of become world champion, Quentin, and I have every intention of making that goal a reality, no matter what.”
“You see, Quentin, the UWA needs a better class of champion. They need a man who looks the part. Now maybe I am not the man for the job, but considering I am not a thug or some hillbilly with a thing for causing Amber Alerts or some poor little rich kid turned brooding loner with a crew or a pimp trying to pass as some sort of role model and defender of righteousness, or some emotionally unstable mercenary or some tough as nails fighter who seems to duck out of having to fight. I am a wrestler. All I have been, all I have ever wanted to be is a wrestler. And I will do whatever it takes to get to the top of the UWA.”
“Why?”
::“The Canadian Legend” spreads the fingers of his left hand outward, stretching them, then moves them like snakes, and then flexes them.::
“Because whether or not anyone here wants to admit it, Quentin, the UWA NEEDS me to. This company needs a better class of bad guy because right now, all it seems to want to focus on is a thug and a hillbilly rape cult that cannot win a match to save their lives, or a group of rejects for American Horror Story: Freak Show. I allegedly destroy Georgio’s car and really nothing seems to come of it.”
“In fact, Quentin, it seems the more I do or the more I say, the less attention they want to give to me or the things I say. Now, sure, they have placed me in matches on Monday Night Mayhem, but that, as I said, seems like a cheap ploy to placate me or to get me to stop saying the things I have been saying, but it will not work. And it will not work because, in spite of everything I have done in my career, I have a little thing called integrity.”
::Travis chuckles a bit. It is a dark, joyless chuckle. He looks downward.::
“There are no heroes in the UWA. I see none when I look out over the roster. I see the elite and those people the company seemingly lost interest in or feels like they can just let sit at home for weeks at a time, and as I said, that hardly helps make this tournament an open field for anyone to win, now doesn’t it?”
“No Quentin, there are no heroes in the UWA. The Sin City Knights are not the defenders of the weak and the oppressed. They are not the champions of honor and righteousness in the UWA. You are not heroes fighting for the weak and the oppressed.”
“How do I know this Quentin?”
“What makes me so certain of what I say?”
“The fact that I literally got away with beating the absolute hell out of one of your girls a few weeks ago makes me certain. I left that poor innocent girl laying in a pool of her own blood, battered, beaten and broken. It was sort of a preview of what I plan to do to you Quentin. But, remind me, what was the Sin City Knight’s reaction to that?
::Travis raises an eyebrow. He rubs his chin.::
“Hmm?”
“Tell me Quentin, because as I recall, it was absolutely nothing at all.”
“None of you walked out and demanded my blood. None of you walked out and called for my head. When Georgio pulled me from the match, none of you went to him and demanded I be placed back in so you could get a piece of me. Instead, you won a two-on-three handicap match with the odds in your favor, because that is clearly what the so-called champions of righteous do, they fight when they have the advantage and fail to protect the weak after ducking out any fight they may not be able to win.”
“Do you even know the definition of the word Quentin, because for a man who once called himself the Protector, you have failed to prove yourself as such.”
“A knight is a warrior following a code of conduct, of chivalry. Either by noble birthright or by proving themselves to be men of exceptional character who served the king or queen beyond all expectations, they were granted the honor of knighthood. They were supposed to be men of honor, integrity and loyalty. We tell stories of these brave heroes, such as King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, the greatest collection of knights the word has ever known. We watch our children pretend to be knights slaying a dragon as we did when we were young. What they are not is a hypocritical group of two pimps and their sidekicks pretending to be these great heroes, even claiming to be defenders of righteousness and yet, disproving their claims every single day.”
“You, Quentin, Silver Baron, Craven, Skylar and Frasier Freemen are not knights. Not even in the broadest sense of the word. You have never lived up to the name. All you have done is drag the word through the mud. You are not, nor have you ever been knights or heroes or role models. And you never will be.”
“There are no heroes in the UWA. I know this because I have been in the ring with so-called heroes, and I have found them all to be false. I have found them to be liars. I have found them to be hypocrites. All of them save for one man who I actually believed was a hero, a man of honor and integrity, and the only hero in this business I have ever respected. There is only one person in the UWA I even see a fraction of him in, and it is not a member of the Sin City Knights.”
“There are no heroes in the UWA. And that needs to change. Now I am not arrogant enough to believe I can be a hero. I have done too many terrible things to even attempt such a thing. But, they say evil triumphs when good men do nothing. And honestly Quentin, that is all I see you doing; nothing.”
“You are not a knight Quentin Sharpe. You are not a hero or a defender of the oppressed or a champion of righteousness or a protector. You are certainly not a knight because you have no idea what the word means.”
“You are a weak little coward who hide behind a mask and was a failure as a champion; a pathetic waste of a title reign.”
::Travis spreads his arms outward and looks upwards.::
“So try and rise knight! Rise and challenge your dragon for he is here and he is ready to slay you! Rise and be the hero I know for a fact that you are not. Rise, so that I can take you down.”
::Travis lowers his head, those cold, predatory eyes of his glare forward.::
“At Monday Knight Mayhem, like so many brave knights before you, you will not slay the dragon, you will not kill the demon. You will be brought to your knees and made to bow before “the Once and Future King” like the dog you are.”
::The scene starts to fade out.::
“Challenge and learn.”
::The scene fades to black.::
::He does not turn away from the city of the encroaching darkness.::
“If there is one thing I am certain of, it is that neither Georgio Oliver, nor his plucky and chubby sidekick, nor the so-called director of security, really seem to have no idea what the hell they are doing.”
