Inside a radio DJ booth sits a heavy set Caucasian male wearing a UWA hat and t-shirt. He has long hair tied back in a ponytail and a beard. He sits at the booth pressing buttons on the control console, then moves towards the mic, moving it closer towards him.
Matt: “And we are back. This is Mat Slam and I am your host Matt Tech and you are listening to KWBL radio.”
Matt presses the button to play the jingle for the radio station and the show.
Matt: “We’re here to dissect the week in wrestling and UWA President Georgio Oliver made two huge announcements this week on Monday Night Mayhem. The first is that the newly crowned UWA Champion Jeszika Gautier has been suspended for her actions at Fearless. So right now, the UWA is without an active world champion as Jeszika’s status and that of the UWA World Heavyweight Championship will be decided at the December pay-per-view Cataclysm.”
Matt: “But the bigger news is that every wrestler in the UWA is now in the, well I guess you could call it the Road to Tragic Engagement Tournament. So the deal is, for anyone who missed this week’s Monday Night Mayhem, that every win and every loss will be awarded a point value and at the end of this tournament, whoever has the most points will receive a shot at the UWA World Heavyweight Championship at the Tragic Engagement pay-per-view. Huge news, whole field is open, and it is literally anyone’s game.”
The door opens and Amy Zing enters the room. She takes a seat opposite Matt Tech and places the UWA Television Championship on the table. Matt takes a look at the title as Amy gets comfortable, brushing her hair from her face.
Matt: “And our guest tonight could indeed be the person who wins the tournament and faces the UWA World Heavyweight Champion at Tragic Engagement. She is not only the current UWA Television Champion, but also the first. Our guest tonight is “The Hong Kong Sensation” Amy Zing. Amy, welcome to the show.”
Amy: “Thanks for having me. It’s great to be here.”
Matt: “Amy, I suppose first and foremost, but a very belated congratulations on becoming the first ever UWA Television Champion.”
Matt points to the UWA Television Championship on the table.
Amy: “Thank you. It’s still really kind of surreal that I won the title in the first place. I didn’t think I even deserved the shot, and now here I am as champion. It’s kind of a surreal experience to say the least.”
Matt: “Well one of the people who would agree with you not deserving to be champion is Lacey Roberts. At Monday Night Mayhem, you made an emphatic statement to Lacey.”
Amy: “I really don’t know why people think I am just a pushover. Honestly, it’s like people think they can pick a fight with me and I will just run and hide. Okay, sure, I am a nice person and I try to be nice, but I fail to see how that means I will just stand there and let people bully me or not react when someone picks a fight with me. For weeks, all Lacey has done is say mean things about me. Never once did she just go up to me or anyone in management and ask for a title shot. Instead she feels the need to say mean things about me or criticize how I choose to live or act, and make the threat that she could just take this title from me if I ever had the guts to face her in the ring. Well I do have the guts. I have no idea why she is acting like some kind of spoiled brat or why she feels she is entitled to something like the Television Championship. Maybe I didn’t deserve the title shot, but I have worked hard to represent the title and the UWA as best I can. And who is she to judge how I live or how I act. I like being a positive person. I like me. My friends like me. My family likes me. My fans like me. Would I love to be in the ring every night? Yes. Do I want to defend the UWA Television Championship? Of course I do. But I fail to see what gives Lacey the right to judge me or criticize how I choose to live and act because she is unhappy.”
“The Hong Kong Sensation realizes she is starting to ramble and closes her eyes. She takes a deep breath and exhales slowly to regain her focus. She opens her eyes, looking slightly embarrassed.
Amy: “Sorry.”
Matt waves it off, clearly having never seen Amy’s quirk live and in person.
Matt: “No, it’s fine.”
Amy takes the title off the counter and holds it up a bit.
Amy: “I told her to pick the time and the place, but I think I would rather beat her to the punch, and I am going to name the time and the place. At Cataclysm, I will put the UWA Television Championship on the line against Lacey Roberts.”
The UWA Television Champion pauses and looks at the title she is holding up.
Amy: “And I just realized no one out there can see me holding the title up so it loses something in effect. Sorry, got lost in the moment.”
Amy sets the title back down on the table.
Matt: “Well I hope someone in the UWA is listening because I think everyone would love to see that match.”
Amy: “Me too.”
Matt: “So, what are you thoughts on the suspension of UWA World Champion Jeszika Gautier?”
Amy: “I can understand why Jeszika did what she did, and I can understand why she was suspended, but I do not really agree with it. Aerynn Donnelly kicked Jamie Hensley in the head and nothing happened. It really doesn’t make sense to me. Sort of seem a bit of a double standard, doesn’t it?”
Matt: “That actually leads me to my next question and the Road to Tragic Engagement Tournament. So, what does it feel like for you to be in your first tournament for a world championship?”
Amy: “I’ve never had a shot at a world championship before, so this is a big deal for me. Every win and every loss now has huge ramifications. I think, though, it is safe to say that I am something of a dark horse in this tournament. I have a terrible win/loss record here, so I really doubt that I am going to be the one. But still, I have no intent of that stopping me from trying. I would love to be UWA World Heavyweight and I would love to main event a pay-per-view like Tragic Engagement.”
Matt: “I think it is safe to say that your fans would love to see that.”
Amy: “I feel very blessed and grateful for the fans that I have and that they continue to support me and I hope I don’t let them down in this tournament.”
Matt: “And I am sure they love hearing that. Now getting back to the tournament, you are set to face the UWA North American Champion Vince Jones at Monday Night Mayhem this week. This is the first time you two have ever faced off.”
Amy: “Yeah. We were supposed to face off a few months ago, but someone double booked Jones and I think I either faced Craven or Lacey Roberts that week. I don’t recall who it was, but I am pretty sure I lost that one.”
Matt: “So what do you think your odds are going into this match?”
Amy: “Personally, I don’t really like Vince Jones. I find him to be arrogant and unnecessarily violent at times. But, I cannot deny that Vince Jones is one of the toughest competitors in the UWA. When you consider he has been holding the North American Championship for as long as he has and considering who he’s beaten to retain the title, it is hard not to be impressed with what Vince Jones can do, regardless of whatever you think of him. I think it is safe to say that he is not a paper champion. And I also think it is safe to say that Vince has his eyes on that main event and the UWA World Heavyweight Championship title shot at Tragic Engagement.”
Amy: “But at the same time, I would like to be the one who gets to that main event spot and I really have no intention of just giving it up without a fight. So, yeah, I am going to go out to that ring and I am going to try to kick Vince Jones head off. I may not win, but I am not going to make it easy on Vince Jones.”
Matt: “Now, I think you could expect Lacey Roberts to get involved.”
Amy smiles a bit, almost like she is amused at the idea of the possible confrontation.
Amy: “Of that I have no doubt. She’s either going to be there at ringside or watching backstage or something, I really do not know. But I am right now focused on what is ahead of me. I have to get through Vince Jones before I face Lacey Roberts, so she can wait her turn.”
Amy: “I know what Lacey is capable of inside the ring, what she can do. But so far, I have not seen that Lacey Roberts. I see a Lacey Roberts that seems more content to complain or act like she is entitled to things like the Television Championship or whatever. This week, she tried to start something and I nearly kicked her head off. This week, if she wants to start something, then I have no problem trying to kick her head off again. But, like I said, I need to stay focused on what’s in front of me, and that is Vince Jones.”
Matt: “Speaking of Vince Jones, considering he is the current North American Champion, would you seek a championship match if you were victorious? Could we see a unification of the Television and North American Championships?”
Amy looks a bit surprised and then shakes her head. She stops and brushes a few loose strands of hair out of her face.
Amy: “What? No. The UWA Television Championship is still new. I have no desire to unify it with the North American Championship now or ever. Yeah, it’d be absolutely smashing to hold two championships at the same time. I personally have never done it, but I hear good things about it. But I do not see it happening ever. I would rather focus on being the Television Champion and making this title mean something that pursuing another championship. But, that may sound a bit hypocritical considering I am in a tournament to determine a number one contender for the UWA Championship though. Still, everyone is in the tournament, so I really don’t know how hypocritical it can sound. I suppose it can still sound that way, but I’m a bit more focused on the title I have now than the title I may never get a shot at.”
Matt: “So does having this whole Road to Tragic Engagement Tournament thing add any pressure to the match?”
Again, Amy shakes her head.
Amy: “No, not really. I mean yes I would love to be the one to win the tournament and go to Tragic Engagement to face the UWA World Champion, whoever it may be, and I have never had a chance to compete for a world title, but if it happens then it happens. And really, it may not even happen for me. For me to pull this off, I would have to beat the entire UWA roster and not lose a single match. Those are long odds for anyone to try and overcome. But really, where’s the fun in trying it if there is no challenge?”
Matt: “Too true. So, do you have any last words to say to your opponent for this upcoming Monday Night Mayhem?”
Amy: “Vince Jones, I don’t know if you are listening or not, but there are a few things about me that you need to know. First and foremost is that I do not give up. You can knock me down all you want, but as long as I can still get up, I am going to get up. I am not going to sit here and tell everyone that I am going to beat you. I am not the type to guarantee a victory, especially against someone like you. But that does not mean I am not going to fight. No, Vince, you are going to have to work for this one.”
Amy: “You may be bigger and stronger than me, but that’s not saying a lot Vince when you consider I am not exactly a giant powerhouse, or really even that tall. I’m the underdog, the dark horse, the long shot or what synonymous term you wish to use. But, that’s pretty much how it has always been for me Vince. Yet I will never give up on my dreams, or on myself or on my fans. Knock me down, I get back up. Beat me and I will get up and try again. But I will never quit and I will never stop trying. The phoenix crashes in fire and burns, but it rises from the ashes every single time.”
Amy: “Our match is not about your title or my title or even the UWA World Championship. This is simply about you and I stepping into the ring and trying to pick up another win. But Vince, like I said, I have no intention of making it easy on you or going without a fight. I am still going into Monday Night Mayhem with the intention of trying it kick your head off. I am still going into Monday Night Mayhem to show you, Vince Jones, all the fans watching at home or in the arena, and Lacey Roberts, why I am simply Amy Zing.”
Matt: “Well that’s all the time we have tonight. I would like to thank our guest UWA Television Champion “The Hong Kong Sensation” Amy Zing.”
Amy: “Thanks. It was great to be here.”
Matt: “Join us next week where my guest will hopefully be wrestling legend Scott Razor, if he’s not too drunk to show up again.”
At the mention of the wrestling legend, Amy pouts a little, looking sad.
Amy: “Oh I liked Scott Razor. He was a really good wrestler in his day. It is such a pity about all the personal issues.”
Matt: “Once again I would like to thank our guest Amy Zing.”
Amy: “You’re welcome. Thanks for having me.”
Matt: “This is Mat Slam and I am your host Matt Tech, and you are listening to KWBL radio. Stay tuned in for the Rush Hour Rebels.”
Amy gets to her feet and reach over to shake Matt’s hand. Matt extends his own. The two break and Amy picks up the UWA Television Championship as the scene fades out.
Matt: “And we are back. This is Mat Slam and I am your host Matt Tech and you are listening to KWBL radio.”
