She stood there. At the edge of the cemetery. She didn't say anything. She just.. watched. Looked. Gazed at the cemetery. And the inhabitants last resting place.
Dark eyes moved from one headstone to the next. Taking in the names; the dates.
The only thing that remained of the people that were buried within the graves were nothing but names.. and dates. Nothing was marked on the headstones of who these people were. Nothing about what they did in their lives. Nothing of their families. Nothing of their spouses or children.
Nothing.. But dust and bones. And some, not even that.
She looked down at the gate that led the way into the cemetery. It was cast iron. And when she reached a hand down to push it open, it groaned in protest. But it allowed her entrance. And in she stepped.
The sounds of her feet falling upon the deadened leaves and twigs were lost within the depth of the empty forest that surrounded the cemetery. Even as the gate swung shut, it didn't make a sound.
It was as if everything within both the cemetery and the surrounding forest was.. muted. Like the area itself was.. under water.
“Mother?”, the voice came from behind the Priestess. But again, it sounded muted and far away.
But it was enough for her to turn around and look. She seen Sariel standing at the gate. Only just inside the cemetery itself.
“Mother, why are we back here? Did we not appease.. It?”, Sariel asked softly. And the Priestess only smiled.
“Rest easy, Daughter. It isn't here.”, she said softly to the woman behind her. “If you'd rather.. remain here. I won't be overly long.”
Sariel simply nodded and waited as the Priestess turned to head deeper into the cemetery.
A breeze stirred as the Priestess walked around the cemetery. Stepping around headstones, only to stop at one and read the inscription on it. The one written in stone. Not the one written in blood.
No, the ones written in blood.. Those were saved for the bones that lay under the rancid earth that covered them like a welcoming blanket.
And finally, she came to the center of the cemetery. And she stopped. Dark gaze raising up to the stone angel that stood as a testament to the night of the Culling.
The Priestess raised her face up, closed her eyes and let the memories of that night wash over her. She let them claim her mind as she remembered every touch. Every thrust. And.. Every.. Scream.
“Don't fret precious; I'm here.”
She laughed softly.
“Stalker Knight.. The man who believes he can stand against the Priestess of the Children of Nephilim. The man who believes he is worthy of being feared. Of being.. what? Worshiped?
You are male; yet hardly a man. A man doesn't allow his woman to speak for him. Yet...”
She spreads her hands slightly to indicate that he does, in fact, allow his wife to speak for him.
“The Silent Destroyer let his woman speak for him and look at where that got them. Broderick Montgomery let his cock speak for him and look at where that got him. Jeszika Gautier allowed her cunt and addictions to speak for her.. Ashley let her drug addled brain speak for her.. Bethany's bleeding heart speak for her.. Kyle Travis lets his ego speak for him..
And where has that gotten them?
And then there's Aerynn Donnelly.. The UWA World Champion. I have to give it to the woman. She's got balls bigger than all of them combined.
Yet, even she walked the path we wanted her to.”
The Priestess smiled serenely.
“We've faced better than you, Stalker Knight. I've faced better than you.
You're a man who likes to intimidate with his size. You're a man who tries to put fear into the hearts of men and women with his silence.
And trust me, child.. There's only one man who could pull that off. And you're not him.”
She turned around to look back around the cemetery and let her gaze settle back on Sariel.
“You see, Stalker.. My daughter, Sariel, knows who truly rules here. My sons know.”
She smiled blissfully. Darkly.
“I know.”
She slides her narrowed gaze off to the side.
“You'll fall like all the rest did. You'll wake up from that deep slumber and thank me.
You'll thank me for making you see the truth behind it all. You'll thank me for allowing you the honor and pleasure of showing you what true devotion is. You'll thank me for putting you into the ground.
And then you'll beg me to put you back to sleep.”
As she started to walk back to the gates, she spoke once more.
“I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies.. I'll be the one to protect you from a world to survive and a voice of reason. I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies.. And your choices, Son..
One in the same.. I must isolate you..
Isolate and save you from yourself.”
And then suddenly, the sound of the gate closing with a soft bang could be heard.
