A black 1982 t-top Pontiac Trans-Am sits in a parking lot on the edge of town. Sitting at the wheel, Ashley Kenyon pounds her fist frustratedly into the seat. With fresh tears rolling down her face, she shakes her head, knocking it back against the headrest.
Ashley Kenyon: Damn me...
She takes a deep breath and closes her eyes, unable to believe the situation she’s gotten herself into. A few minutes later, her older sister, Bethany Kenyon, knocks on the passenger side window. Ashley sits up and quickly unlocks the door. bethany slips inside, closing the door and locking it again behind her.
Bethany Kenyon: What’s up you sounded…
She stops short at the sight of her sister.
Bethany Kenyon: Jesus, Ash, what the hell happened?
Ashley shakes her head, unable to bring herself to say it out loud.
Ashley Kenyon: I…
She throws her head back against the headrest again, her hands flying up to cover her face. Bethany cocks her head in concern.
Bethany Kenyon: Ash…
Ashley lets her hands fall down but her eyes remain closed.
Ashley Kenyon: I…
She shakes her head.
Ashley Kenyon: Billy and I had a fight.
Bethany sits back warily.
Bethany Kenyon: Over what?
Ashley swallows hard.
Ashley Kenyon: Heroin.
Bethany’s jaw drops momentarily.
Bethany Kenyon: What was your side?
Ashley shrugs.
Ashley Kenyon: That I didn’t wanna do it.
She shakes her head even while her sister just stares at her wondering what is really going on.
Ashley Kenyon: I had a moment the other night after I was a bitch to Nikki for no reason. I drove off all mad and I wanted to do something that would piss you all off. I was mad, being stupid and childish and I…
Trailing off, she tries to swallow back the lump in her throat.
Ashley Kenyon: I drove over to Lis’s house.
Bethany gasps.
Bethany Kenyon: Ash!
Ashley nods guiltily.
Ashley Kenyon: I knew it would piss you off. I knew it would get to you guys and I knew from talking to Lis when she was most likely to be home with Kelly.
She pauses and stares out the front of the car through the windshield.
Ashley Kenyon: I pulled into their driveway practically salivating at the thought of getting loaded. Didn’t care on what, anything to get you. I sat there for a couple of minutes, watching Lis walking Lucy down the street. I knew she’d be back in a couple more minutes and then it would be party time. I looked back to the house and then started thinking about it, about what it would feel like…
Bethany shakes her head.
Bethany Kenyon: Ash…
Ashley moves her gaze down from the windshield to her feet.
Ashley Kenyon: Then I started thinking, do I really wanna do this? Am I really in the mood to party or am I doing this because…
Her hands squeeze into fists.
Ashley Kenyon: I looked down the street at Lis with Lucy and decided I couldn’t do that to her. She’s told me how much she doesn’t really like heroin and she told me not to do it myself. I looked at myself in the mirror and asked, how could I go into her house and ask her to do that when I know she doesn’t want to? Am I really that much of an unfeeling selfish bitch that I would get mad at something stupid, blame all of you and then force Alissa to do…
Her eyes ram shut, new tears starting up.
Ashley Kenyon: I pulled out of their driveway and went to yoga instead. That’s when you called...
Bethany nods slowly.
Bethany Kenyon: So you chose not to lash out… and this is bad?
Ashley shrugs.
Ashley Kenyon: I went to see Billy after. He was sober and we had a good night together. He left and came back last night. We made dinner, then…
Bethany smiles.
Bethany Kenyon: Sounds nice.
Ashley nods sadly.
Ashley Kenyon: It was, til he broke out the syringes.
Bethany nods.
Bethany Kenyon: And you said no?
Ashley nods.
Ashley Kenyon: He said he was gonna regardless and I asked him if we couldn’t just snort a little and not shoot, ya know? Do as little as possible and not have to worry about track marks and infections and stuff.
Trailing off again, the lump comes back into her throat.
Ashley Kenyon: He didn’t wanna hear it. He started to leave and I asked him to stay. We started arguing about who was betraying who and then... I hit him…
Bethany’s eyes go wide.
Bethany Kenyon: Did he hit you?
Ashley shakes her head.
Ashley Kenyon: He just looked at me…
She stares at the steering wheel, her emotions tumbling all together.
Ashley Kenyon: He grabbed his stuff and left me there and I just…
She shrugs, shaking her head.
Ashley Kenyon: What could I say?
She turns and looks at her sister’s eyes.
Ashley Kenyon: Does this make me an abuser? Am I…
She looks away, unable to maintain eye contact.
Ashley Kenyon: I got sick as soon as he left as if I had shot up with him. I ran in the bathroom and threw up for a good half an hour. Then I sat there crying just…
She shakes her head, the tears flooding her eyes now.
Ashley Kenyon: I don’t know what to do, Bethy. I snapped at you, I snapped at Nikki and then I hit Billy. What is WRONG with me?
Sobbing uncontrollably, she starts to fall over and bethany catches her, cradling her head.
Bethany Kenyon: It’s gonna be alright, Ash. It’s gonna be alright…
Ashley Kenyon: This is when I’m supposed to stand here and tell you all I’m the realest bitch, right? Stand here and scream and rant and rave about how much of a bad ass I am and that Vince Jones is a fake ass poser and that I’m gonna do something to expose him, right?
She shrugs as if we’ve all heard this a million times before.
Ashley Kenyon: Vince Jones may be an arrogant bastard who fronts on all counts so that he doesn’t have to hear things he doesn’t wanna hear from everyone around him, but does it really matter when he’s the one holding the gold?
She almost laughs at the thought.
Ashley Kenyon: He’s obviously doing something right if he can go through all the wars he did with Fraser Freeman despite never being able to even say the guy’s name right and now he’s probably just looking at me as another speedbump on his road to the glory he already thinks he richly deserves. We know he does because he tells us so on every show and so far, who has been able to tell him he’s wrong?
She stands there looking expectantly as she waits for an answer.
Ashley Kenyon: His brother might be better looking than him and the one I’d think about going for if I was in the mood but still, he’s the one holding the gold. He’s the one who gets to talk shit to everybody because so many people scoffed at him when he came in here and were like, totally dismissive, and now he’s the one laughing because Kyle Travis is so freaked out that V. Jones is the one living what was supposed to be his life.
She shrugs again, shaking her head.
Ashley Kenyon: Well I’m not in the mood to yell and scream and rant and rave and holler until I can’t talk anymore. I’ve already done that and it didn’t get me anywhere at all. Even if i did, what good would it do? I’d still be the one going into this match as the supposed weak half of a tag team and Jonesy would still be the one coming in as the reigning champion who gets to show off his greatness no matter what because he’ll walk out the same way he walked in even if he loses. He’ll still be the champion…
Taking a deep breath, she looks determinedly into the camera.
Ashley Kenyon: What I can do is thank him.
She nods.
Ashley Kenyon: Thank you, Jonesy for showing everyone that no matter what they all think, you can be exactly what you think you are. Thank you for showing the world that all the haters can just shove it up their asses if they think they matter more than what you feel inside. And I can thank you for giving me this chance. You are the champion and now this is my chance to prove I belong as more than just the raving lunatic little sister of the good Kenyon sister.
She nods more forcefully.
Ashley Kenyon: Thank you, Jonesy, for giving me this chance to prove to the world that Ashley Kenyon is more than just the coked out drug-addled bitch everybody thinks I am. i can’t wait to prove them all wrong!
Ashley Kenyon: Damn me...
