Sariel kneels on the outskirts of the compound she calls home, looking up as the rain falls around her. Her hand pont upward, her arms extended as she seemingly waits for a sign to take her. As she remains there, eyes closed, the twins, Ramiel and Ananiel, come walking up behind her. Their eyes remain fixed upon her as she fails to move at all.
Ramiel: Sister, what…
Ananiel: Are you doing?
Sariel remains on her knees, allowing the rain to cascade over her. The twins look to each other and then back to her, neither quite sure what is going on.
Ramiel: Sister?
Sariel remains unmoved yet still.
Ananiel: Sara?
Sariel’s arms slowly descend to her sides as her head droops forward, her chin parking itself on her chest.
Sariel: Why?
The twins both frown in confusion.
Ramiel: Why...
Ananiel: What?
Sariel shakes her head.
Sariel: Why were we spared? Why were we deemed worthy to have such a gift bestowed upon us after our great failure?
She nods to the forest before them.
Sariel: Why were we not sacrificed to the forest and what sleeps within it?
Before the twins can answer she rises to her feet and turns to face them.
Sariel: Why were we chosen above all others within His flock? Why, when the Culling occurred, were we deemed worthy to avoid decimation?
She shakes her head, tears visible even through the rain.
Sariel: Why were we allowed to remain?
Ramiel and Ananiel move and hug her closely.
Ramiel: He sees within us…
Ananiel: Something worth cultivating. We should…
Ramiel: Not look a gift horse…
Ananiel: In the mouth when it…
Both: Comes of the Father.
Sariel nods.
Sariel: Can you both truly stand there and say you believe we deserved no punishment for our failures?
The twins step back in shock as she stares at them.
Ramiel: Sister…
Sariel shakes her head.
Sariel: Tell me, Rami… can you?
He goes silent and sariel nods before looking to the other.
Sariel: Naani?
Ananiel stares back at her in shock.
Ananiel: Sara… I…
Sariel nods to them both, bowing her head again in shame.
Sariel: Neither can I.
She takes a deep breath as the three of them stand in silence, the rain drops falling all around and over them, pitter pattering on the leaves.
Sariel: That’s what bothers me most. We deserve to be punished, not rewarded with an opportunity as we have been. The Father is not usually so forgiving, neither is Mother.
The twin nod in agreement. This was true, Joshua McBride and Maiko Adachi were not known for their willingness to overlook such things.
Sariel: We must do better. We must BE better!
Ramiel and Ananiel both nod respectfully.
Both: Yes, Sister!
Sariel starts looking around the compound, throwing her hair back.
Sariel: We serve at the pleasure of the Father but we also need to show them that although we heeded His call, we also had to choose to follow it. We were not tricked into feeling something that is not there.
Ramiel nods slowly.
Ramiel: The masked one speaks…
Sariel wheels on him with fire in her eyes.
Sariel: So he does, but he knows not of what he speaks! The Sin City Knights are dogs who dared to question the Father! The largest and most powerful Knight was shown to be a jester by Vince Jones and now the others come for their own share of the Father’s vengeance.
ramiel and Ananiel nod.
Ramiel: The Father does not…
Ananiel: Forgive nor does he…
Ramiel: Forget such insults…
Ananiel: Freely given for…
Both: Absolutely no reason!
Sariel smirks cruelly.
Sariel: The Baron claims to be insane and would have me on my knees before him to act as a shameless harlot. He sees nothing of value within us, nor of anything worth saving. The Father sees different and we must prove Him right!
Ramiel nods slowly.
Ramiel: And the masked man?
Sariel snorts derisively.
Sariel: He says anonymity was required yet all that can be said of the man is that he hides behind a mask he says he will now cast aside as if it meant nothing to him to begin with. If it meant nothing, then why was it required? What was gained?
Having no answer, the twins shrug.
Sariel: He says we are to be but speedbumps and cannon fodder so that he may reveal his wrath to the world as his wrath is something to be feared before all others. He has not met the Father, he does not know what wrath is!
She pauses and then nods to them grimly.
Sariel: We must earn this. Rami, Naani, we must EARN this! We must reward the Father’s faith in us! We must show Mother why we were spared, why we were not of the Culling and why we have not been sacrificed to the forest and what sleeps within!
She motions with her hands and both twins kneel before her.
Sariel: I call upon the Thunder of God, the Rain of God, for I AM the Stormbringer and I am God’s Command!
The twins both nod, their heads bowed and eyes closed as they kneel at her feet.
Both: Amen!
Sariel nods slowly, her arms reaching to the sky.
Sariel: The Father has shown us the way, and now we must heed His word! He culled the flock of worthless sheep until only the wolves remained. The herd of worthless cattle were sent to the slaughter in order to cleanse the Children of Nephilim, so sayeth the Father, the Messiah of Destruction, Joshua McBride! We have been charged with carrying out the first part of His vengeance and the Sin City Knights, the Silver Baron and the Protector of Nothing have been chosen as the first scapegoats for the sins of all UWA! They may say what they will be they will be shown that when the Avenging Angels are given their marching orders, vengeance will be HIS!
The twins nod again.
Both: Amen!
Sariel lowers her hands to their heads.
Sariel: Vengeance is mine sayeth the Father, we have survived the Culling and now we must go forth, be fruitful and multiply, spreading His word to the masses! happy are we who have heard His call and been deemed worthy to receive the gift of His love! yet, not what we will, but what He wills! We are the Bene Elohim, Father! Thy will be done!
Ramiel: Sister, what…
Ananiel: Are you doing?
Sariel remains on her knees, allowing the rain to cascade over her. The twins look to each other and then back to her, neither quite sure what is going on.
