A large crowd has gathered for a charity motorcycle ride. It is a beautiful day out. The sun is shining and the sky is clear except for the bit of fog from San Francisco Bay. Bikes are gassed up and ready to go.
A few celebrities are in attendance as well to support the cause. One is here not only to support the cause, but also to ride in the event. It is current UWA wrestler “the Hong Kong Sensation” Amy Zing.
Amy Zing stands by her Harley Davidson motorcycle. She is wearing a pair of jeans, black boots, gloves and a t-shirt. A black jacket and helmet rest on the seat. She runs her fingers through her long hair as she looks over her bike.
“I suppose I should gloat or try to act confident now that I won a match, but considering that I am only one and two here in the Unchained Wrestling Alliance, I hardly feel that gloating is an appropriate course of action to take.”
“Still, I cannot help feel a little satisfaction or a sense of accomplishment in finally getting a win. I have no personal issue with J-Shades. It was a great match. But, I can’t deny that winning felt good.”
“However, one win is not exactly a laurel I can rest on. Yes, I finally won, but it was one win. I can hardly even say it is the start of an undefeated streak considering that I lost my first two matches. I don’t see how someone can even have an undefeated streak if one has already lost a match. Once you have that loss, you really do not have a streak going on. It seems somewhat easier have a losing streak than a winning streak. I know I have had a few losing streaks in my career, which I will admit, is not exactly that long or illustrious, but still, no one wants to be known for their losing streak. And I doubt very much that anyone wants to be known as the person who was beaten by a person with a losing streak. Still, while I do not have a chance of having an undefeated streak, I would like to think that I can get a winning streak going. I’d rather have a winning streak than a losing streak. One win though is not a winning streak.”
Amy pauses as she speaks and realizes that she is rambling. She closes her eyes, takes a deep breath and exhales slowly. “The Hong Kong Sensation” slowly opens her eyes as she tries not to look embarrassed.
“Sorry about that.”
She makes a face and taps her chin.
“Where was I?”
Amy snaps her fingers when she suddenly recalls where she left off.
“Oh right.”
“I have attained my first victory. Now comes the hard part, trying to attain a second victory. I need to show everyone out there that the win was not a fluke. I need to show people that it was not an accident or that I didn’t just get lucky.”
“The question though is can I gain another win here in UWA?”
“I would like to believe so. I would like to think that I can get that second victory and a third and a fourth and keep on winning maybe a bit more often than I end up losing. I would like to think that. I would like to believe that. But thinking and believing something is possible and making it so are two entirely different things.”
“Then again, nothing is worth having if it is just handed to you. For something to have value, to have meaning and importance, one has to earn it, to work for it and to strive for it. Wishing and dreaming are not going to accomplish anything other than establishing what it is you want. And then comes the hardest part, trying to get it.”
For a moment, Amy looks like she realized she said something that she should not have said, or said something rude.
“Okay, yes, I am a Buddhist and one of the key things taught in Buddhism is that desire leads to suffering. That does not mean we do not want things or that we don’t have desires. Everyone wants things or has desires; it’s human nature. What Buddhism means is not to let that desire consume you, because then that leads to suffering.”
Again, she has that look like she said something wrong.
“Now that idea shouldn’t be taken as something like my desire to win will lead to your suffering or anything like that Lacey. It is actually quite far from it actually. Although I admit it would make a great line or a catchphrase, but I have no desire to twist religion for my needs. As I said, there is a balance between knowing what you want and letting it consume you. I think I have managed to find the balance.”
“I want to win matches. And I do admit to wanting to be a champion. However, I accept that these are things that may happen for me or they may not. At the very least I would like to win enough matches to get a shot at a championship. It is not the same as being a champion, but it’s a title shot and that counts for something.”
“But you know what?”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” sighs a bit, placing her hands on her hips and shaking her head. She stops smiling.
“As much as I should feel like I should be celebrating or happy that I won a match, I find myself a little annoyed that nothing was done about Aerynn Donnelly attacking Jamie Hensley. I mean this is supposed to be our champion. She can’t do stuff like that. It has nothing to do with Jamie and I being friends. It is more that as the UWA Champion, she is supposed to epitomize what it means to be a wrestler in the UWA. I can’t just walk out to the ring and kick Jason Chase in the head, can I? No I can’t. I can’t hit a referee or an announcer or one of the backstage interview people, can I? No I cannot. It may be egotistical, but I consider myself to be a role model. I try to set a good example. The Aerynn Donnelly I respected and made we want to come to the UWA was a fighter and was the type of person that could be a role model. She was someone who went out of showed everyone how tough she is. But what she has done since winning that title makes it hard to respect her. I would love to get into the ring with her and have a shot at maybe kicking some sense into her, and I threw it out there, but it seems that no one wants to let it happen. As far as I am concerned, she still owes Jamie an apology.”
Looking a bit embarrassed as she realizing that she is just ranting yet again, Amy stops talking and tries not to blush. As she does every time this happens, she closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She exhales slowly and opens her eyes.
“I’m sorry. I’m rambling.”
“And, I should apologize to you Lacey Roberts. It seems that I have been ignoring you for most of the time I have been talking, going on about winning and losing streaks and Aerynn Donnelly. I didn’t mean to and I am sorry.”
“However, my match with you and that whole thing about winning and losing streaks I was trying to make are not entirely mutually exclusive.”
“This is a match. Two of us enter into the match, but there is only one winner and one loser, unless we somehow both get counted out or the match ends in a double disqualification for some bizarre reason. I am not entirely sure how the match will end in a double count out or double disqualification, but it can. I doubt it will happen in this match as I cannot see how it could, but it happens.”
“If I beat you that marks my second win here in UWA. While I will admit that two victories hardly qualify as a winning streak, it is still a decent start. It would also make my record even at two wins and two loses, so that’d be neat. I will admit that it’s not impressive, but it beats having one win and three loses. At least I think it does. It seems like it would to me.”
Amy adjusts her gloves, making sure they are secure on her hands.
“But I will also admit that there is a chance I end the night with a record of one victory and three loses. I don’t think that would make my one win a fluke or luck, but certainly would leave people able to say that. Yet, I accept that someone has to lose in a match. Obviously no one wants to be the person who loses a match, but it happens. I am hoping it does not happen to me, but it can happen. I just have to prevent it from happening.”
“And I will do my best to try and prevent myself from losing this match Lacey. I accept that I may end up losing the match, but you will have to excuse me if I try my best not to make it easy on you. I may lose the match, but I will not go easily. I will not go quietly.”
“But, maybe at least to me, the thing more important than having my first victory was that I think it was an awesome match. That is the kind of match I live to wrestle, where it goes back and forth and the crowd just cannot help themselves from getting into it and it is a match they talk about and a match that just sets the tone for the night.”
Amy Zing smiles and picks up her jacket off the seat. She shakes it out a bit and starts to slip it on.
“That is the kind of match I got into this business to have. That is the kind of match I want to have every single night. I want to go out there and give those fans who paid their hard earned money to go to Monday Night Mayhem or are watching at home their money’s worth. I want to give them a match that they will remember. And I will go out there each and every night with the sole goal of doing just that.”
Amy, however, does not zip her jacket up once she gets it on. She adjusts the sleeves a bit.
“Lacey, I know you are tough. You have to be to make it in wrestling. Your grandfather and father were wrestlers and this sport is in your blood. I do not have this business in my blood, but I have the passion, the desire and the drive to make up for any disadvantage that may bring about.”
Smiling as she picks up helmet, Amy Zing looks over her bike and then up at the clear blue sky. After a moment, she looks back down.
“At Monday Night Mayhem, Lacey, I am going out there to give those fans a show. I am going to try and kick your head off. Win, lose or draw, I am going to show you why I am simply Amy Zing.”
Amy Zing mounts her bike and slips her helmet on. Sliding the visor down, she reeves the engine and heads to join the rest of the riders.
