Bethany Kenyon and her sister, Ashley, walk from Ashley’s car to to the front door of their favorite hangout, Prey. As they walk, knowing they’ll soon be with their respective lovers, Bethany shakes her head in more of an ice-breaking disbelief.
Bethany Kenyon: You really haven’t told Billy yet?
Ashley shakes her head, sighing with aggravation. She’d known this was bound to come up all over again after the Arsenal meeting earlier.
Ashley Kenyon: No, I really have not told Billy yet. Like I said, I haven’t seen him much so it's not like there’s been a thousand opportunities to go, “Hey, I love you but let’s forget all the fun stuff we do because my part-time job is getting a little weird.”
Bethany stares at her sister in shock.
Bethany Kenyon: A little weird?
Ashley nods, obviously expecting to be mocked for this sentiment.
Ashley Kenyon: Well, what would you call it? it’s not like we can call it more dangerous than our usual gig, now is it?
Bethany starts to retort but then catches herself and thinks about it for a second. Could she honestly say one was more dangerous than the other? As she does this, Ashley can’t help but smile, playfully, almost tauntingly.
Ashley Kenyon: You’re honestly gonna stand there and think about it now, aren’t you?
Bethany shrugs.
Bethany Kenyon: I suppose that is a decent little debate to have. On the one hand, we deal with crooks, drug dealers and other less than desirables and we meet them when they are quite possibly at their lowest, most vulnerable and thus most ready to strike out violently. We’ve seen loads of guns, drugs, knives and explosives and had them all pointed at us at various times.
Ashley nods her agreement.
Ashley Kenyon: I think my favorite was the one who had me dead to rights only for Jezzy to smash him in the back of the head with a scoop shovel full of horse manure. The look on that guy’s face when he woke up covered in that stuff…
Bethany nearly vomits at the memory.
Bethany Kenyon: That was just disgusting…
Ashley nods, grinning as they open the door to the bar.
Ashley Kenyon: Yeah, but it was also hilarious to see that big a guy almost crying because somebody our size had blasted him with a shovel full of shit!
Bethany nods as the two share a chuckle.
Bethany Kenyon: I suppose it is when you put it that way…
Ashley nods again as the door closes behind them.
Ashley Kenyon: And the other hand?
Bethany frowns as they start walking towards the bar.
Bethany Kenyon: Other hand?
Ashley nods expectantly.
Ashley Kenyon: you were about to contrast the danger in UWA to our other gigs.
Bethany nods.
Bethany Kenyon: Oh, right, well, then you have UWA/wrestling in general. It’s nominally a better class of people who are all about competition but as we’ve found out, some of them feel the need to make it personal and do stuff that can put your whole family in danger because of one little wrestling match.
Ashley nods before smiling as she sees her boyfriend, Billy Hawkes, standing off to the side by a hallway entrance.
Ashley Kenyon: I spose I gotta go have that discussion with him now, yeah?
Bethany nods before hugging her sister.
Bethany Kenyon: You be strong now, Ash.
Ashley nods and then wanders over to engage Billy in conversation. Bethany watches her go and sighs heavily.
Bethany Kenyon: I hope this goes better than it usually does…
Just then a familiar voice greets her from behind.
Carrie Winter: What does?
Bethany turns and kisses her girlfriend, Carrie Winter, lovingly before nodding to Ashley and Billy.
Bethany Kenyon: They’re about to have the cut back on the partying conversation.
Carrie nods knowingly.
Carrie Winter: That’ll go well, I’m sure. Back room’s all set for ya, I get off in a couple of hours…
Bethany grins and kisses her again.
Bethany Kenyon: Ok, I’ll be waiting.
Carrie nods as she heads back to work at the bar. Bethany makes her way to the back room that Carrie calls home and sits down before the computer. Three videos later, she watches both Skylar Hansen and Amy Zing’s promos and nods.
Bethany Kenyon: ok…
She turns on the camera and shrugs.
Bethany Kenyon: I have to admit, I’m not really sure exactly what is going on here in UWA but I’m also pretty sure, whatever it is, it’s not good for most of us. You see newcomers to the company like Amy Zing, who look so hopeful and ready to go that it’s almost scary to think what will happen to that when Joshua McBride decides that feeling needs crushing just for kicks. She looks like she should be a force to be reckoned with, which also tends to attract you, Joshua, doesn’t it?
She shakes her head, looking down at the floor for a second.
Bethany Kenyon: Anybody who starts to look like they might just pose a threat to whatever it is you want, gets dealt with in devastating fashion and I’m not even gonna sit here and act like we have a clue what this is really about because none of us do. That’s why seeing somebody like Skylar scares me around you too, Joshua. there she is, a woman who lived through some horrendously awful stuff and is now a battered shell of a person lashing out when she’s pushed a little. She’s the kind you’d find a slight threat but also that you’d find to be the type of vulnerable soul you could prey on.
She pauses again before looking up into the camera.
Bethany Kenyon: I know what you used to do Joshua, you used to take care of people like Amy, like Skylar…
She nods acknowledgingly.
Bethany Kenyon: Honestly, like me and my sister. You specialized in people like us or Aerynn Donnelly. People who looked like they were apart and in need of protection. You would go all out to find people like us and try to keep us safe but now you’ve perverted that into...
She sits back and exhales forcefully.
Bethany Kenyon: Honestly, I don’t know what you’ve turned it into but I do know that if you and your Children come near this match, there are three women in that ring that will fight back if you get in our way. Amy Zing, Skylar Hansen and I have a chance to show each other what we’re made of and I’m sure we all will but if you decide to disgrace us all with your presence, we will resist and even if that resistance is futile, we would rather go down fighting than let you assimilate us into some grand plan for your glorification!
She stands up and glares into the camera.
Bethany Kenyon: Stay away from us, Joshua. Stay away or the whole bunch of us is gonna make you kiss your ass goodbye!
Bethany Kenyon: You really haven’t told Billy yet?
Ashley shakes her head, sighing with aggravation. She’d known this was bound to come up all over again after the Arsenal meeting earlier.
