We enter a bedroom as J-Shades just finishes packing for his trip to Seattle. Dressed in blue Jeans, a black T-shirt with the name “Gibson” written across in white letters, black converses and a pair of black sunglasses sitting on top his head, he shoves his wrestling gloves into a side pocket of his suitcase. He looks around and gives a sigh of relief, knowing that’s the last he needs to stuff inside.
Jay: Now that that’s over with…
(J-shades sits in a chair by his computer, looking out the window to his left.)
Jay: I think before we have our match we need to come to an understanding. You were totally right when you said I am a man who believes our families shape us. My parents were instrumental in making me the person I am today, and, despite what you might think, Skylar, (Pointing at the camera for a second, then looking up at it) your parents were instrumental in making you the person you are today. It’s fact. It’s in my blood. It‘s in your blood. It’s in everyone’s blood (Holding his hands in the air as if he's showing off people in the room with him). You don’t have to like it, but it’s there.
So when I come into Seattle it’ll be impossible not to bring my parents with me, just like it’ll be impossible for you to not bring whatever broken home you might be coming from. (He holds two fingers up to his left wrist) Our veins pump with the memories of our past, and to get rid of that would be to bleed out and die. I don’t know about you, but I don’t plan on dying anytime soon.
Now here’s where I think you misunderstood me.
Just because my parents are part of the reason I’m here, doesn't mean they wanted me here. The minute I decided I wanted to be a wrestler is the minute where my life, and my decisions were put completely in my hands. Nothing is going to get in the way of what I want now. (Jay counts on his hand) Not my family, not my friends, not any low life on this stupid Island, not anyone on my way to Seattle, and certainly (Pointing at the camera again) not you. Wrestling a women may not have been my first choice, but now I know you’re up to the challenge. Now that I know you wanna be treated like an equal, and that you won’t be holding back, I guess I’d better bring my A game.
What I plan to do here in the UWA goes so much farther than you, Sky, but as far as Mayhem goes, you can expect my best. I am built by my past but I’m fueled by the possibilities of my future.
Prepare to be part of my past.
(He sets his glasses on his eyes) Good luck, ms. Skylar. I’ll see you Monday.
Scene fades to black.
