::When the camera held by the camera man opened the scene it was to a room filled with laughter. The sound of a room full of people. When the video of the feed finally opened it was in a living room which was not overly familiar.
The room was a modest sized living room with a couple of chairs and a large leather couch. A decent sized flat screen television was bolted to the wall and showing the U.W.A. Private channel where the wrestler videos and replays of the shows aired.
The room was filled with nearly half a dozen people. The massive young man Dean was standing behind the couch leaning back on the wall with his brother Robert and Mother Micah seated on the couch with a beautiful strawberry blond who sat in a beautiful sundress with her legs crossed at the knees.
Seated in a chair with a equally beautiful goth woman seated in his lap was a man dressed in a neatly pressed suit of chocolate brown with his hair pulled back in a ponytail. The man usually had a all business scowl on his face but today he was smiling and laughing.::
Robert: “So tell us about mom.”
::The younger brother of Dean Hemlen broke the laughter with a question that brought about another round of laughter from Eric and the goth woman on his lap while the black haired Micah Hemlen waves her hand dismissively but her youngest son pressed. Eric lifted a hand with a laugh and shook his head with amusement.::
Eric: “She wasn't part of our click so I didn't know her all that well.”
Dean: “Who was in your click?”
Eric: “Myself, obviously, David and girl Monica and her sister Aura. A kid named Jason we all called Fury.....”
Micah: “Jason.....”
Eric: “The short kid with the spiked hair.....”
Micah: “The one who always seemed like he had to much coffee?”
::Eric actually grinned and nodded with a little chuckle. Allowing himself to go back into the memories of a more pleasant time. When life was simple.::
Eric: “That's him! Always following David around like some kind of lost puppy dog. Then of course there was his steps sister Faith. Your mom was never part of our group.”
Micah: “I wanted to though.”
Dean: “You did?”
::Micah glanced over her shoulder at her son and a warm, almost radiant smile crossed her face and she nodded.::
Micah: “Everyone did son. The entire school wanted to be part of that group. Head Cheerleader, captain of the football and wrestling teams in your father and uncle here. I wasn't any different back then. We all idolized them.”
Eric: “Well, we were the embodiment of cool.”
Micah: “I see time hasn't made you any less of a conceited ass Eric.”
::Eric lifted his glass in a salute with a grin, even Lyra giggled softly. Micah answered that grin with one of her own and Dean behind them just chuckled.::
Robert: “Well....if you weren't part of their group how did....Well how did Dean come to be?”
::Micah lifted a hand and pointed a finger at Eric who grinned.::
Micah: “No!”
Eric: “The boy asked!”
Micah: “Eric, No!”
::As Eric opened his mouth to begin his story Micah lifted a hand to her face to hide her embarrassment.::
Eric: “Your mom always had a thing for your dad Dean. Since the first time she laid eyes on him freshman year but Monica was always there to separate them.”
Dean: “Why would anyone need to separate them?”
Eric: “Your mom was a hottie De....ugh....”
::Lyra had playfully elbowed Eric in the ribs and the man chuckled and held his hands up in defeat but there was no real anger in the face of the pig tailed gothic woman. She was amused.::
Eric: “....There was a party senior year that Monica couldn't make it to. It was just after before grandfather passed away.....”
Micah: “There were so many rumors about that. What happened to Jonathan anyway?”
::The look that crossed Eric's face was one of haunted pain but it was Lyra that locked eyes with the black haired Micah and shook her head ever so softly. Silently telling her to drop it. Micah swallowed hard and nodded softly. She knew what this meant. One of the rumors had to be true, and all of them were bad.::
Eric: “Well anyway. David was drinking rather heavily and He and your mom started talking, really talking for the first time in years....”
Micah: “And we can spare them the specifics of the rest of the night!”
::Micah was actually bright red now as she said this firmly. This caused Eric to grin again and nod and then Micah looked down at the table.::
Micah: “He left a few days after that.....”
Robert: “What do you mean left?”
Micah: “Disappeared. Got up in the middle of class , went home and then vanished.”
Eric: “No one saw him for a little over ten years.”
Micah: “Didn't you and David have it out in College?”
Eric: “No. Me and Snake did.....”
Dean: “Snake?”
Eric: “He was....David's alter Ego.”
Dean: “His character on television.”
Eric: “No Dean, Snake was much more then that.”
Micah: “Eric....”
Eric: “He needs to know Micah.”
::Eric's voice was forceful now as he stared into the eyes of Micah who finally nodded grudgingly. Eric looked up from the mother to Dean and nodded.::
Eric: “David's father committed suicide our senior year. That's what made him leave. In college he began to change. To create a secondary personality to deal with the pain and loss of what Jonathan did. Snake wasn't just a on screen persona.....”
Dean: “He was a real person?”
Eric: “As real as David by that time. Snake was unstable, vicious, volatile, short tempered and very, very dangerous.”
::Dean's younger brother looked over at Dean who was staring down at his hands. Robert began to wonder if this is what was happening to Dean.::
Eric: “He was brilliant as well....and very, very good at twisting people's perspective of him. No one saw through it until years later when he met....”
Ronnie: “Don't mention that bitch!”
::Veronica Bellamy had been so quiet everyone had almost forgotten she was even here. Veronica looked up at Eric and narrowed her eyes.::
Eric: “.....I didn't see my brother again until just before his daughter passed away.”
Robert: “Wait, until he met who?”
Ronnie: “No!”
Micah: “His second wife.”
Ronnie: “He was only married once!”
Micah: “Ronnie I saw it all over television. Contrary to what she wants to say now.....”
Ronnie: “ONCE!”
::The force of this snarl took both Micah and her youngest son back. Eric shook his head softly as he knew already of the hatred Ronnie had for her. He shared it but he would never speak of it. Eric however was focused on Dean.
Since he had mentioned David's daughter’s passing Dean had gotten quiet and was staring down at the floor with his eyes narrowed and his hands clenching into fists and then releasing over and over again. Eric pats Lyra on the thigh and she slides off his lap onto the arm of the chair.
Once Lyra was up Eric rose from the chair and came around the couch to place a hand on the bicep of the kid and motion his head to the door. Together the two of them headed outside leaving all the others to talk. Once they were outside Eric reaches into his suit and pulls out a pair of thick fine cigars and holds one out to Dean.::
Eric: “David's favorite.”
::Dean looks down at the cigar a moment and then hesitantly takes it and waits as Eric lights first his own and then Deans with a old fashion stick match.::
Eric: “Always lite a cigar with a stick match. It preserves the flavor.”
Dean: “....Thanks.....why are you doing this?”
Eric: “You are David's son.”
Dean: “So?”
::Eric took a deep puff off the cigar before blowing the smoke out and looks from Dean to the night stars above the porch.::
Eric: “It requires two people to go out of their way. They have to establish it on their own. It's small and what's small turns into friendship and that turns into a bond and that bond cannot be broken. The love can never be lost.”
Dean: “I....don't understand.”
Eric: “When you finally get to brotherhood Dean, lines get drawn. Lines that never get crossed. That's what your father was to me. My best friend. My confidant. My brother. Regardless of blood. He was my brother and when we decided that responsibilities fell to me. He isn't here to help you though this.....so I will.”
Dean: “Do you know....what's wrong with me Eric?”
::Eric gently shakes his head softly and lifts his cigar up again.::
Eric: “No.....but I know it has something to do with Jasmine....”
::Eric turned right at that moment and took Dean by the neck and drives him back into the house holding him still as the kids pupils dilate and he begins to almost foam at the mouth. Eric leans in and whispers.::
Eric: “Hello Snake. Ish.....Snake....ish.”
::It took a few seconds before Dean finally shook his head and gather himself again and Eric stepped back and turns back to gaze out over the horizon.::
Eric: “You are hiding something from yourself Dean.”
Dean: “.....No I am not.....”
Eric: “Something about my niece.....”
Dean: “....What do we do?”
Eric: “We continue training.....and we tackle it together kid.”
Dean: “....You won't leave...?”
::Eric smiles softly and shakes his head and finds himself surprised when Dean lunges forward and wraps his arms around Eric's shoulders. Eric smiles softly and hugs the kid back as the door opens and Ronnie, Lyra and Micah appear in the doorway.::
Micah: “we heard the crash.....everything alright?”
Eric: “Everything's fine.....”
::Eric motions with his head to the door to Dean and the kid nods and smiles before heading inside. Lyra follows him back inside and close the door leaving Ronnie and Micah standing on the porch with him. Eric looks up at the sky again and lifts the cigar.::
Eric: “It's been a long day without you David and I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again.”
::Micah places her hand on Eric's shoulder and looks up with him.::
Micah: “We've come along way from where we all began David....the two of us...we'll tell you all about your son....when we see you again.”
::Ronnie didn't speak. She simply walks up on the other side of Eric and lays her head on his shoulder and Eric can feel her shaking and knew the little southern bell was crying. Then he heard Micah sob and hugged each of them women, one on each side and allowed them time to grieve. They needed a rock and he'd be that rock for them.
He would always guard them.
