Speed and power.
Power is not a word that one would associate with a woman a bit over five feet tall and weighing in the mid to low hundreds. And yet, it is really the only word that describes the kicks Amy Zing uses. Each one is delivered with a shocking amount of power given her size.
One would expect quick or fast, both words usually associated with someone of her frame. And one would be right. Those kicks are indeed fast. Amy has, over the years, thrown them with a incredible speed.
While both words are accurate to describe those kicks, because the speed that she throws then out is impressive, it is the power someone of her size can put behind those kicks that has shocked more than one opponent who took a look at her and didn’t think much, only to be dropped to the mat with a kick they underestimated.
That combination of the speed at which she throws those kicks and the power of each one possesses is a thing of devastating beauty. Each the result of years of work and repeated motion to the point of driven into the memory of her muscles. They are almost instinctual by now.
While many have criticized her lack of wrestling skill, technical maneuvers and submission hold, everyone seems truly impressed with the kicks that serve as the primary weapon of her arsenal. Mix with her willingness for high risk maneuvers and exciting signature moves, and it is not hard to see why people are entertained by her.
It is inside a gym where Amy Zing, dressed in a pair of sneakers, work out shorts and a tank top that shows off her stomach and the slightest hint of the sports bra she is wearing underneath, shows off that combination of power and speed as she is practicing those kicks on a punching bag. She delivers a roundhouse to the bag and then turns away from it to speak.
“So here we are, Silver Baron, now finding ourselves on the opposite end of the ring as opposed to last time when we were on the same side. You would think, given the current environment in the UWA, that we would be facing the Children of Nephilim or Sin Inc or something like that rather than taking one another on in the ring. I mean that would make a lot more sense than the two of us facing each other in the ring. At least it makes more sense to me. I honestly wonder about this place in regards to the Children of Nephilim. It’s like they get a free pass to do whatever, but as we are defying them, we are to be made examples of. I don’t really know. I could totally be wrong in this regard. It just seems to make more sense that as many are fighting the Children of Nephilim, we actually face the Children of Nephilim. Personally I don’t see a point to us fighting. I can only imagine this match ending with the Children of Nephilim hitting the ring and attacking us. So, again, I fail to see why this match is happening as it is really an invite for the Children to get payback for a few weeks ago. I really just don’t see this ending well for us. I don’t think I am being paranoid about this. I could be, but I doubt it. I mean they have done it before, and more than likely, this is a good place to do it again. And really, I have always found these types of matches, where they have good guy facing good guy or bad guy facing bad guy to be odd, because it seems it makes it rather difficult to know who to cheer for. And, honestly, it hardly seems like we are low on bad guys here in the UWA. I could be wrong as I have not actually counted the total number of people on the roster, but I do somehow doubt that we are running low on bad guys, so a match like this is rather odd, and even odder still given that, again, you and I are a part of this whole “destroy the Children of Nephilim” movement that seems only recently to have sprung up from out of nowhere. I mean, yes, Kyle Travis made that his intention earlier in the year, but it seemed like he was going it alone until Michael Rivers debuted as the leader of the Children, and suddenly, everyone joined in on the mission. I know why I did, because of Dahlia, and I know why you did, but it still seems rather odd to do this sort of a match at this time when the Children have members and we could face them. Again, it’s just my opinion.”
Realizing that she has started rambling, Amy Zing closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She slowly exhales and opens her eyes again, trying not to look too embarrassed over that little quirk of hers.
“Truth be told, I am rather looking forward to this match. I do not think you and I have ever met in the ring before Silver Baron. I know we had the tag team match a few weeks ago, but I am pretty sure this is the first time you are I have ever stepped into the ring with each other as opponents. So, I am actually looking forward to this match.”
She smiles a bit.
“You, Silver Baron, have been a major star in the UWA. You’ve challenged for the UWA World Championship and you were the first UWA Tag Team Champion. You’re one of the top competitors here, so of course I am looking forward to this match. Who wouldn’t be?”
“And yeah, you have had some ups and downs, what with the whole Oblivion thing. And did that ever get resolved, because I feel like one minute you are fine, and then the next minute, you are on the verge of unleashing him again. I am really kind of confused by it all. And then you had Fraser Freeman leaving due to injury, Quentin Sharpe and Skylar getting injured and the team being down to just you and Craven, and then Freeman came back, but now you are targeted by Sin Inc and the Children of Nephilim and it’s bad and on top of that, you are Lacey are having a kid, and that can’t be easy given what you do outside the ring cannot be something you want a child exposed to, not that I am judging. And now you have Freeman back, but he’s kind of going crazy on you, which cannot be helpful.”
She frowns, looking sympathetic to the recent plights of the Sin City Knights over the past year, but smiles again, clearly eager for this encounter that may very well end up with her shoulders on the mat.
“I do have respect for you Silver Baron. You have struggled with a demon inside you, and managed to not give in. You’ve been able to stay one of the top wrestlers in the UWA. I admire that. I may have some issues with your side business and I may even question how you can bring a child into that kind of a world, but for the most part, I do respect you and what you have accomplished. You did manage to build and run your own business. I don’t have to like it, but I can accept it.”
“It is sort of like how I felt about Lacey to be honest. In a way, I respect Lacey as a wrestler. She is a tough competitor and she was a fighting champion. I do feel a little bad about her injury, but she seems okay. However, it was everything else about her that I really did not like. I did not like constantly being told that I didn’t belong here or that I didn’t deserve to be a champion or that I was nothing compared to her while watching her get high or insinuate she was about to have a gangbang to celebrate a title. I really did not like Lacey as a person, but I respected her as a wrestler. I may not like what you do for a living Silver Baron, but I do respect you, and it is why I am looking forward to this match.”
“In a way, I think this match is good for the both of us.”
Picking up a nearby bottle of water, the UWA Television Champion opens it and takes a drink. She stands there for a moment as if in thought before she takes another drink and places the cap back on the wattle bottle then sets it down. She hits the bag with a quick back kick.
“If you think about it, it really is. Neither of us is involved in a feud with each other and we’ve never tried to end each other’s career. There is nothing on the line like revenge, pride or honor. We are not trying to win a title or earn a title shot. We are just two wrestlers who are trying to win a match with really, nothing on the line.”
“Now that being said, there is no way I am not going into this match and giving it everything I have. I really do not care if my opponent is someone I like or dislike, a person I respect or a person I do not. I do not care if the match is for a title or to gain a title shot or for some other prize. I go into each and every single match I have, and I give it everything I have because to do less would insult my fans.”
“And I am really interested to see how they react to this match. We are going to have half the place chanting my name, the other half chanting yours, or vice versa or no one chanting mine or no one chanting yours. And that’s okay with me. As long as they are reacting to our match, they are having fun. As long as they are cheering for something we are doing, then we know we’re doing it right.”
“And really, in the end, that is what it is all about with this kind of match, is making the fans happy, giving them something to remember when they go home. That to me, Silver Baron, is the bigger victory. Win, lost or draw, if something I can do puts a smile on a kids face, then I am happy. It is a huge part of why I do what I do and what makes me who I am.”
“Two weeks ago, we managed to score a win over the Children of Nephilim. Two weeks ago, we were allies. This week, we are still allies, but we also have to be opponents.”
“At least I would like to imagine we are still somewhat allies as we are both trying to get rid of the Children of Nephilim. I certainly do not think we are enemies as I cannot imagine what I could have done between the end of that match, where we beat back the Children and today as we head into Monday Night Mayhem to face off against each other. If the Children of Nephilim were to attack, I am certainly going to come to your aid and I would like to believe you would come to mine as well. I cannot imagine why you would not, as, again, I cannot imagine what I have done that would prompt you not to do such a thing. Either way, I strongly suggest that we be on our guard at Monday Night Mayhem and at least watch each other's backs. I would like to assume that it would not need to be implied, as I can't see anything posetive coming out of not doing so. I mean, yeah, we are opponents, but this is just a match and if the Children show up, it would be better to focus on them rather than us.”
Once again, realizing she is rambling, "the Hong Kong Sensation" closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She opens her eyes with a slight smile. But she cannot hold that smile as she touches on the subject of the Children of Nephilim. Try as hard as she might, she starts to clearly become angry. It can be heard in her voice, and seen in her eyes.
“We share a common goal in wanting to see the end of the Children of Nephilim, though our reasons for doing so are different. You, Kyle Travis, Sentinel, and even Bethany, we want them destroyed, but Silver Baron, I will tell you this and I will tell it to everyone fighting the Children with me; I am taking Michael River’s head, and there is no one I will allow to get in my way, ally or not. That is not a euphemism, or an expression, or some sort of empty threat. His career and his life belong to me, and I am coming to collect."
“Everyone in this fight got into it for their own reasons. Kyle Travis was bored, Sentinel is doing the right thing, and the Children of target the Sin City Knights for awhile and tried to draw Oblivion out. For me however, this is personal. This is so very personal.”
“I should have known the bear Danika Bayne was carrying belonged to Dahlia. I should have, but somehow, someway, I missed it. I had seen that bear so many times and yet, I missed it. I feel like I let down Dahlia. Every second Danika holds that bear, every second it stays with the Children of Nephilim, something that belonged to someone so innocent, so pure, and as wonderful as Dahlia, every second they keep it twists it and perverts it, and it sickens me Silver Baron. It does.”
“But more than that, I have watched Michael Rivers fail her again and again. He opened the basement door, but he never let her out. And now, rather than retire, he instead builds a cult and has done terrible things in the name of a person who was far nicer, sweeter, stronger, brave and kinder than I could ever hope to be. Dahlia was the best person I have ever known. And to see Michael Rivers drag her memory down with everything he has done. In death, he has failed her because nothing he’s done is anything she would have wanted.”
“I don’t have some sort of monster inside me that I can blame. Whatever I do to the Children of Nehpilim I cannot blame on someone or something else. I will not do that. Yes, I am doing this because I feel that Dahlia’s memory and legacy are being perverted and violated by the actions of the Children of Nephilim, and that every single word Michael Rivers has said about how much he cared for her is a lie, but I cannot and will not blame Dahlia for my actions. She would be the first person to tell me to forgive him. She would look at me with those childlike eyes, eyes that had seen so many terrible things, and yet still managed to cling to hope, to have that childlike sense of wonder, to love the simple things in life and she would tell me I should forgive him because I am, as she called me “the Amy Zing” and that I was a good person, but the fact is Dahlia was better than I could ever hope to be and if I ever have a daughter, although considering I am single and not looking, that seems unlikely, I would want her to grow up to be as strong, as kind and as good a person as Dahlia was.”
She squeezes her hands into fists.
“I try to be a good person. I am willing to forgive people. I mean Lacey and I are never going to be friends, but I would like to think based on our conversation a few weeks ago, that she at least has come to the belief that I belong here in the UWA. Robina Hood and I, I have often said, never had a match against each other, we just had wars. We went out there each and every single time just tried to take each other out. And yet, in the end, we found that mutual respect for one another. Even Aubrey J Parker, a woman I could not stand, and I seemed to have come to at least polite conversation with one another. We may never be friends, but at least we can be in the same room and not start fighting.”
“But, Silver Baron, I cannot forgive Michael Rivers. I know Dahlia would want me to and I hope she will forgive me, but in my heart, I know I cannot forgive him.”
Stopping before her nails break the skin of her palms, Amy opens her hands. She shakes them a bit to regain the feeling and get the blood flowing. She seems to have calmed down a little bit, regained that usual happy, upbeat mentality she has. The anger at the Children is still there, but it’s clearly no longer at the surface.
“So yeah, I think you can see why I need a match that isn’t about the Children of Nephilim. You see why I could use a match that isn’t about a title or a title shot, and is not against someone who every time I get into the ring with, the match just devolves into an all out war. This is just two wrestlers, on the same side of a conflict, that for some reason, have to face each other. I think you could use a similar match, right?”
“Maybe the Children of Nephilim get involved and maybe we fight them off or they lay into us until help arrives. Maybe they don’t get involved. Maybe you win, or maybe I win. I don’t really know.”
She shrugs and smiles, looking and sounding eager for this match against Silver Baron.
“What I do know, Silver Baron, is that I am going to go to the ring at Monday Night Mayhem, step into the ring against you and give it everything I have. This is the first time you and I have ever faced each other, and I intend to make the most of it, by going out there, giving it everything I have, try to kick your head off, which is not personal, but it is pretty much my thing, so sorry, and show you why I am simply Amy Zing.”
Without even turning back face to the bag that she has been working, Amy Zing throws another reverse roundhouse that knocks the bag swinging like a pendulum ever so slowly. The weight of the bag helping it to stay somewhat still in the face of those quick and powerful kicks.
“So good luck and I will see you Monday.”
The scene starts to fade out on Amy throwing a series of kicks to the bag.
Power is not a word that one would associate with a woman a bit over five feet tall and weighing in the mid to low hundreds. And yet, it is really the only word that describes the kicks Amy Zing uses. Each one is delivered with a shocking amount of power given her size.
