The camera opens upon a young woman tied to a table in a dimly-lit room, a single naked bulb swinging high above her as the only real illumination available. As the camera takes in the scene, a door off to the right near the woman’s feet opens in the dark. Cole Hunter walks into the shot and pauses near the woman’s feet.
Cole Hunter: And how is our guest, this evening?
The woman tied to the table barely manages to look up at him and he smirks at her inability to answer him. He pats the table almost lovingly, seemingly trying to reassure her as he passes towards her head.
Cole Hunter: Does your silence signify the accommodations’s failure to meet your rather demanding standards?
He continues up to her head where the camera finally reveals the face of Ember Freeman. Cole looks down at her and nods as she tries to look at him, the light shining into her eyes making things difficult for her almost as much as the electrical tape across her mouth. Cole walks to her head and starts stroking her short, bleached blond hair.
Cole Hunter: Ah, the spark ignites a conflagration that terminates in smoldering embers that simply await their sad glow to leave this mortal coil and take with it, the fire’s light. Happy are we that were allowed to behold such a wonder prior to the extinguishing of the light.
He nods, his right hand still stroking Ember’s hair.
Cole Hunter: Your paternal genetic contributor’s donation to your… well being…
Pausing, he can’t help but snicker slightly as he looks down into her eyes.
Cole Hunter: Not doing such a good job at the moment, is he?
He nods almost apologetically, patting her head gently.
Cole Hunter: Attempts continue, however pathetic and doomed an endeavor they may remain. The Protector, the champion guardian angel that manages to be a failure even as his own personal ombudsman cracks down the middle allowing the world to view the wreckage inside.
Ember looks up at him, the defiance that once burned there apparently gone now. Cole smirks as she barely struggles against her restraints.
Cole Hunter: It pleases me to see the realization of your situation, Miss Freeman. Your bargaining posture was always and remains highly dubious. Like your sweet… Brittany…
Ember’s eyes go wide at the mention of the name. Cole sees this and nods knowingly.
Cole Hunter: She struggled against her constriction just as you have, though not nearly as forcefully. She had neither the will nor the strength to linger in that headspace as long as you did…
Leaning down, he kisses her forehead.
Cole Hunter: Your paternal genetic contributor should allow himself a swelling of pride at your abilities… assuming his consumption of spirits is not also consuming his own spirit instead at present.
He stands back up straight and nods to her.
Cole Hunter: You really believed that he would have saved you by now… didn’t you?
Ember stares up at him, fighting back tears.
Cole Hunter: You did… poor thing…
Patting her head again, he leans down by her right ear.
Cole Hunter: That sadly pathetic sperm donor you call “Father…”
Shaking his head, he pauses to swing over by the left ear.
Cole Hunter: He is NEVER coming for you, Miss Freeman.
He moves back by the right ear again.
Cole Hunter: His energy, intentions and vision are all focused on pleasures of the flesh having nothing to do with your wellbeing…
Kneeling down, he moves to the back of her head.
Cole Hunter: Alcohol and violence are consuming him in ways previously held unimaginable to the point of making your rescue an impossibility instead of the inevitability you held out the hope it would be.
Tears start rolling out of her eyes.
Cole Hunter: I’m afraid, Miss Freeman, you’ll simply have to enjoy the accommodations provided longer than you originally intended. Our hospitality will continue to ensure your time with us remains… useful…
Ember starts to shake her head. Cole stands up, smirking cruelly.
Cole Hunter: What’s that, Miss Freeman? You wish our sessions to increase in both duration and intensity?
Ember shakes her head even harder.
Cole Hunter: Double?
Ember’s eyes fall closed as her breathing increases in speed.
Cole Hunter: Triple?
Ember’s breathing picks up more and her whole body starts shaking.
Cole Hunter: Hmm… perhaps… your chemical habits are catching up again, they have been problematic at times.
Cole presses a button and Ember’s entire body relaxes.
Cole Hunter: At least we were allowed the proper experimentation to find the perfect dosage for someone as experienced as yourself…
He pats her head again, nodding as her breathing slows down tremendously.
Cole Hunter: Are we feeling a reduction in combativeness now?
Ember just stares up at him and he smiles.
Cole Hunter: I do wonder how everyone else will enjoy the last glimmer of an Ember of hope…
He nods and then looks to the camera.
Cole Hunter: Bray all you wish regarding your supposed vaunted capabilities for violence, Protector, your daughter remains exactly where she has been…
The smile turns cruel.
Cole Hunter: Just beyond your reach…
He nods and glances back down at the now docile Ember.
Cole Hunter: She believed you would always restrain danger and keep it at bay… that so certain was her protection that she was invulnerable…
He nods.
Cole Hunter: You’ll always rush in to save her… right… Dad?
He smirks and looks into the camera.
Cole Hunter: Just keep telling yourself that…
