“The Hong Kong Sensation” Amy Zing leans against the wall next to the bookcase she uses as a trophy case. She is sitting with her knees up and her sword in her hand. With her thumb, she slowly pushes the blade from the scabbard and then takes her thumb away, letting the blade slide back in. It creates a rhythmic sound, the metal sliding against the wood.
Her hair is undone. She is not wearing shoes or slippers. Her postcards, which have every match she has ever wrestled written on the back of them, by city, venue, date, program and opponent, lay scattered on her floor near her. She is looking downward, hair covering her face.
“Leonidas of Sparta lead over a thousand Greeks, including 300 Spartans, against the tens of thousands of the Persian army. They stood at the pass of Thermapoli, and held off the greatest army the world had ever seen for two days. For those two days, the Persian army threw everything they had at the Greeks, and their best fell. It was only after they discovered a hidden sheep pass that the Persians were able to flank the Greek army. And even then, the 300 and their few remaining allies fought until the last man. Every one of them was killed, but they fought.”
“Horatius, a Roman general, held off invading barbarians on a bridge to allow his fellow legionnaires the chance to fortify their defenses and save Rome.”
She stops sliding the blade in and out of the scabbard.
“One can stand against an army, Michael Rivers, because that one has realized there are some things worth sacrificing everything for. That one has accepted they may lose everything, and that makes them fight like they have nothing left to lose. It is only then do you truly learn what someone is capable of. So yes Michael, one can stand against an army. I mean really, how many movies have they made where the plot revolves around one guy or girl going up against an army of terrorists or mercenaries? How many video games have they made where you are just playing one guy fighting legions of bad guys? I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that the answer to both of those questions is “a lot”. History is full of people standing against an army or a tyrant. It only takes one person, one, to inspire others to take a stand, to rally others to the cause. And if you take down that person, you risk making them a martyr. I know you didn’t read or see Harry Potter, because it wasn’t about you, but Dahlia did, and I am sure if she told you, you wouldn’t have listened because it wasn’t about you, but even after he was apparently killed by Voldemort, people were still willing to fight. In the series Sword Art Online, the man character Kirito did it after the members of his guild were killed.”
Realizing she was rambling, she stops speaking, closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She exhales slowly.
“Sorry about that.”
She looks up, hair still partially covering her face.
“One mind can beat one million. One voice can rally thousands. One can stand against an army, because that one can inspire others.”
“I have accepted that destroying the Children of Nephilim and allowing Dahlia to rest is worth sacrificing everything for. I have accepted that I can lose everything. I have accepted that it is worth it, because even if I fail, someone else will take my place. But Michael, unlike at Monday Night Mayhem, the next time you have me attacked, you had better make sure you finish the job, because I am NOT going down until I kick your teeth so far down your throat, they’ll pass through the entire digestive tract of everyone of your children, because their heads are so far up your ass, you’re the closest thing to the Human Centipede in real life.”
Her eyes are cold, focused, and angry, for she has channeled that rage, that anger into focus and drive. These are not her usual happy looking eyes. The anger, rage, and hate can be heard in her voice.
“I want you to look into the eyes of Danika Bayne, Ananiel, Ramiel, Sariel, and Miako, and I want you to see if each and everyone of them is willing to put everything on the line to save you from me, because I know, I know for a fact Michael, that you are not willing to sacrifice a damn thing for any of them. I know this, because given how you treated Dahlia despite what you say about how much she meant to you, I know that the Children mean nothing to you.”
“And they will see it in your eyes Michael. Sooner or later, they are going to realize the only reason the Children of Nephilim exist is not the lies you told them, or the promise of heaven. The reason the Children of Nephilim exist is because you NEED to be worshiped. You NEED to be praised as a savior, despite the fact that you will fail to save every single one of them. They only exist to feed your ego.”
“You have to know that to be true, Danika. You were the one he had give the order for Joshua McBride. Whatever he told you about his feelings for Dahlia may have been true once, but I doubt that. I doubt it very much. I was there when he and Dahlia were in the APW. I watched his fail her again and again and again. Whatever this is, what he is doing now, what the Children of Nephilim are doing, it is not love. It is desecration. It is not about Dahlia, what she would want, what she would do. It is all about Michael. It is all about his need to be worshiped, to be praised and given adulation, and his need to ignore reality by claiming to be a god, when in fact he is just a sad, weak, pathetic man denying reality. He will feed off you like a vampire and drop you when you are no longer worth anything because he is just a parasite.”
“They are not your children, Michael, no matter what you tell them. They are not your faithful followers that you will lead to a new heaven. There is no heaven for them. You don’t give a damn about them. All you care about is that they keep giving you praise and adulation, because that is all you care about, feeding your ego. They are meaningless to you. That was proven when with Joshua McBride and I am sure you’ll give the order to take out Miako soon enough. And when you do, I will be right there to tell her I told you so, and then I will beat the hell out of her.”
She drops the sword and picks up her postcards. Slowly she gets to her feet and places the cards on the shelf.
“I am willing to sacrifice it all to end you and the Children of Nephilim.”
Her hand touches the UWA Television Championship resting on a shelf.
“You want Danika to challenge for a championship?”
She picks the belt up off the shelf and raises it for all to see.
“Well I am the UWA Television Champion and she can challenge me for this title, and she can be there when I kick her teeth out and ram this belt down her throat.”
The belt falls and lands with a sound that is muffled by the carpet as it lands on the strap. There is a small clacking sound as the screws that hold the faceplate in place hit the buttons on the strap.
“I am willing to sacrifice my title, my career, everything I have to destroy the Children of Nephilim Michael. All you are willing to sacrifice is each and every one of them, because they mean nothing to you. They are nothing more that the fools that hang on your words and treat you like a savior, like the god you are not and will never be. Each and every one of them is going to fall, not for some greater purpose or a higher calling, but because they are just feeding your ego, and that is the one thing, the only thing that has ever mattered to you; yourself.”
Bending over slightly, Amy picks up her sword and flips her hair back to get it out of her face. She stares ahead. She has the same look in her eyes as she had when she threatened Danika Bayne at the last Monday Night Mayhem.
“You do not have an army Michael. You have sheep. You have people whose sole existence, in your mind, is to praise you, worship you, hang on your every word, and treat you like a god because your ego will NEVER allow you to see you as the weak, pathetic, worthless parasite of a person you really are.”
“You are weak Michael, because without people clinging to your every word, acting like you are a fountain of knowledge and wisdom, people worshiping you, you are nothing. You NEED people to be listening to you. You NEED followers Michael. You NEED it, because without it, you have nothing. Without it, you ARE nothing. Without someone, anyone praising you, giving you the attention you feel you deserve, worshiping you, you have nothing. And that Michael, that makes you pathetic. You are not a god. You are just a sad, weak, pathetic little man who desperately needs someone, anyone to praise him.”
“I do not need to picture what Hell would be like for you. I know what your personal Hell would be; you, all alone, no one praising you, no one worshipping you, or hanging on your every word looking for some sort of insight or wisdom.”
“That is the hell you will find yourself in Michael. One by one, the Children will either realize that they mean nothing to you at all and they will stop seeing you as a god, and see you as the pathetic, miserable, worthless parasite who only cares about feeding his own ego that I know you are, or someone, maybe me or Kyle Travis, or Sentinel, or whoever, is going to take them out, leaving you all alone. And then, only then, will you be allowed to fall. And honestly, I hope it is me that gets to do it.”
“But you know something Michael, it is not going to be one standing against an army. At Monday Night Mayhem, it is going to be three-versus-three. I get to team with Sentinel and Bethany Kenyon against you, Danika Bayne and some mystery partner. Personally, I do not give a damn about who your mystery partner is. I do not care if it is this mysterious “him” you have been going on about or if it is Snake’s son, Eric Donavan’s son, the child of some other wrestling legend, or if it is someone new who is just unlike enough to have been placed in this match, or if it is Ashley or her hired thug. All I know is does he know what he is walking into?”
“Bethany Kenyon, Sentinel and I are united by the fact that we all really do not like you people. While I will not speak for Bethany or Sentinel, I personally hate the Children of Nephilim. I will admit that I have not really made the effort to get to know any of you personally, and my hatred is more based on the fact that I find what you are doing and what you have done, all of it being done in the name of Dahlia violates her memory and it is akin to digging her corpse up and desecrating her body. Personally, I feel I showed a great deal of restraint by NOT just decapitating the lot of you when I had the chance. But, if I did that, it would prove difficult to recover her bear.”
“And I do want that bear. I do not care which one of you I have to hurt to make it happen. I was surprisingly okay with you taking something so innocent and perverting it into your symbol of sorts. I did not recognize that it was Dahlia’s. However, and maybe it is somewhat hypocritical of me, when I realized it was Dahlia’s, not only were you perverting an innocent object into an evil symbol, but you were violating the memory of my best friend, someone so pure, so thoughtful, so kind, and brave and good that just seeing you makes me feel so angry.”
“This isn’t me jumping on a bandwagon because battling the Children is suddenly the in thing to do. This is not me having nothing to do, so I just decided to pick a fight. This is not about me protecting my spot or trying to make a name for myself. This fight, this fight is personal. For this fight, I am willing to sacrifice everything to end the Children of Nephilim.”
“I am sure Sentinel has not yet forgotten the assault the Children handed him a year ago. I am pretty sure he would love nothing more than to beat the absolute hell out of the person responsible for the deed. I know I would. Personally, I am finding myself having no real problem if he were to just start beating one of you until you stopped moving. But then again, I do not care about the health and well being of anyone in the Children of Nephilim. I have no issue letting him destroy one or all of you.”
“Nor do I believe Bethany has forgotten being placed in a chokehold while she watched Broderick being taken out. Now she has yet to get her hands on Danika since then, and I would imagine that is something she plans to rectify. As much as I would love to kick Danika in the face until the only thing holding her face in shape is her stupid mask, I am pretty sure Bethany may want to feed it to her piece by piece before she takes on Ashley’s chosen substitute, although, you would think with two months off, Ashley might be healthy enough. I don’t really know to be honest. What I do know is Bethany cannot be happy with you.”
“One by one, you will throw the Children of Nephilim down to the ground to stop anyone from getting to you. You do not care what happens to them. You do not care that they will suffer for your sins. You do not care about their praise and adulation, their worshipping you as the god your ego makes you believe you are. You have Twitter, you don’t need Danika Bayne or Bene Elohim or Miako, because you can just get tweets telling you how awesome you are. And if you get tweets from people that hate you, I am sure you can find someone or something to filter out all the bad tweets so you can go on ignoring the reality that you are not a god, but a weak, narcissistic, delusional, sad, pathetic, lonely little man denying reality and who can only justify his existence by feeding off the praise and adulation that is given to you by people that you honestly don’t care about, yet you somehow convince them that you are somehow special, like a parasite.”
“You are not a god Michael. You are not special. You do not have an army. What you have are three or four sheep you will lead to slaughter, because you have used them to piss off a lot of people who want nothing more than to see a god bleed. At Monday Night Mayhem, it is not one against an army, or three facing you and some brilliant master plan of a mystery partner that you are hoping gives you some sort of an edge. It will be three people that dislike you trying to decide which one of them takes your worthless head.”
Slowly, Amy draws the blade of her sword from the scabbard. The metal of the blade slides slowly against the wood of the sheath.
“You do not come to Monday Night Mayhem to conquer or to prove the superiority and domination of the Children of Nephilim. You come to Monday, leading Danika, and whoever your partner is into the ring to survive Michael. And honestly, I think it would be in your best interest to start praying to yourself for you to save you, because Bethany, Sentinel and I I’m pretty sure are just going out ot the ring with the goal of slaying a god.”
She raises the blade, holding it in front of her, staring down the length of its sharp bronze edge.
“At Monday Night Mayhem, Danika, Michael, I am not going to try to kick someone’s head off. I AM going to kick someone’s head off. I am going to beat into you the fact that I am simply Amy Zing!”
The scene fades to black on Amy holding the sword with the UWA Television Championship on her floor.
Her hair is undone. She is not wearing shoes or slippers. Her postcards, which have every match she has ever wrestled written on the back of them, by city, venue, date, program and opponent, lay scattered on her floor near her. She is looking downward, hair covering her face.
