As passionate as she is about wrestling and her career, the other most important thing to “the Hong Kong Sensation” Amy Zing is her charity work. It is such a charity event, perhaps the one closet to her heart, where the UWA Television is now.
Amy Zing paces around a room on her cell phone wearing a pair of pants, and a jacket that is partially opens, but covers the shirt she is wearing with the name of the charity. She seems to be somewhat stressed as she talks to someone on the other end of the line. This seems rather personal to her, if her tone and pacing is any indication.
Amy: “He hasn’t shown up yet? I thought he was supposed to be here, or at least he should be here. Well it was important to…yeah. I know. Well of course I am crossed about this. No. I am not surprised. It isn’t the first time. Yeah, I am disappointed. I don’t really know if I am more cross or disappointed. I am actually rather surprised that I am surprised. No, I guess I shouldn’t be, but I am. Okay. I guess we are just going to have to go with what we have and hope for the best. It was pretty much how she handled it. Okay. I’ll talk to you later on.”
Sighing as she ends the call she sets the phone down and starts pacing again. There is a knock on the door.
Amy: “Come in.”
The door opens, and UWA ring announcer Jamie Hensley walks into Amy’s room.
Hensley: “Hey.”
Amy looks to the door and smiles, hugging her friend, who hugs back. The two stop hugging.
Amy: “Oh, hi. When did you get here?”
Hensley: “Just got in a few minutes. How are you doing?”
Amy: “I’m doing well. A bit stressed at the moment, but I suppose that is to be expected.”
Hensley: “So…”
The two-time UWA Television Champion shakes her head, looking and sounding a little disappointed, but not totally surprised.
Amy: “No, he didn’t show up, and I doubt he will. He never did before, so I suppose I shouldn’t be too shocked.”
Hensley: “But…”
Amy: “I don’t want to talk about it.”
Amy sits down in a chair in the room.
Hensley: “You haven’t.”
Amy looks up.
Amy: “Huh?”
Hensley: “You never talked about it. That’s not like you. It’s not healthy Amy. You should talk about it.”
Amy: “I really don’t.”
Hensley: “I saw you at Raising Hell, and when…”
Amy: “Jamie. I don’t want to talk about it. I really don’t want to share my feelings or what is going on in my head, as they say. I appreciate the concern.”
Hensley: “But you knew?”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” raises her eyebrows, looking a little shocked at what seems to be an accusation.
Amy: “What? I knew that…no, I had no idea. I knew that, but I didn’t know that.”
Hensley: “I’m not saying that you knew…”
Amy: “Well good, because I didn’t.”
Jamie doesn’t look entirely convinced, but changes the subject.
Hensley: “You even talk to him?”
Amy: “I tried, but got nothing.”
Hensley: “Sounds about right.”
Amy: “Yeah. And people wonder why I have no desire to date anyone here.”
Hensley: “That’s not true.”
Amy: “Yes it is.”
Hensley: “I am sure the right person will come along for you.”
Smiling a bit, “the Hong Kong Sensation” shakes her head.
Amy: “I doubt I am finding that person here. I don’t want to end up like so many wrestlers I have seen, that as soon as they get into a relationship, they seemingly end up just being arm candy. I came here to compete, not date.”
Hensley: “If I say so.”
Amy: “I do say so.”
Hensley: “So what are you going to do about, well, everything else going on?”
Amy shrugs.
Amy: “I don’t really know right now. All I know right now is I have to do this thing and then I have Craven at Monday Night Mayhem.”
Hensley: “I can’t believe you talked me into doing this.”
Amy: “Well, I did say I would help out when this thing started, and it means more that I do it now. I promised.”
The UWA ring announcer nods in agreement.
Hensley: “Yeah, but neither of us went through it.”
Amy: “That doesn’t mean we can’t still try to help.”
Hensley: “Hey, I am just here to introduce people.”
Amy smiles.
Amy: “And I appreciate that.”
Hensley: “So what are you going to do about Craven?”
Amy: “I really don’t see a reason to do anything. He’s not coming after the Television Championship and he’s not going on about how I do not deserve to be in the UWA, or how I don’t deserve to be here or how I never deserved to be in wrestling to begin with. I mean, yeah, maybe he will come after the Television Championship if he wins, but I really don’t know. He still has all the issues with Sin Inc and the Children of Nephilim. And after the last few months, this is a good return for me as well because there’s no string, no rivalry, just two wrestlers going facing each other. I mean we may not hang out in the back or share cars or hotel rooms or whatever, but at the same time, we are friends, or at least friendly enough to be cordial to one another and have polite conversation. Personally, I think Craven’s a really good competitor, but for some odd reason, he’s never really been allowed to shine like he should be. I suppose I just got lucky with the opportunities I have been given. I have been really lucky.”
Hensley: “You can call it luck, but you always thought you would be a champion.”
Amy: “I always knew I was good enough to win a title, but winning one and thinking you can are two totally different things.”
Hensley: “Says the first and only two-time Television, and first and only two-time champion in the UWA.”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” waves the ring announcer off.
Amy: “Oh hush.”
Hensley: “You said it, not me.”
Amy: “Yeah, but there are a lot of wrestlers in the UWA I thought would have that honor before me, like Aerynn Donnelly, Bethany Kenyon, Ashley. I don’t think anyone saw it being me.”
Hensley: “Maybe. At any rate, I got to go get ready. I’ll see you out there.”
Amy nods.
Amy: “Yeah, see you out there.”
Jamie smiles and exits the room. As soon as the door closes, Amy sighs and shakes her head. She smiles a bit, but it is more the kind of smile one has when recalling something pleasant.
Amy: “The things you do for family, huh? Well, technically not family. I mean that in a technically not related by blood or marriage, but more like family in a sort of adopted on the road sort of family that seems to happen in this business. It happens sometimes, either knowing someone that well, traveling up and down the road, being there in locker room after locker room or hours in cars or on flights. Somehow, someway, people in the locker room become family. I mean, yeah, sometimes marriages have happened as a result of people meeting in the locker room. Not often, but it does happen. That’s not the case here though. This had nothing to do with marriage or blood, but it is still a family thing. I guess that counts to doing things they ask you regardless of whether or not you want to. I suppose I got lucky in this cause being important.”
Realizing she is pretty much rambling at this point, Amy closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She exhales slowly and opens her eyes.
Amy: “Sorry, I seem to have got off topic in regards to our upcoming match Craven.”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” gets up from the chair.
Amy: “First of all, congratulations on you and Skylar moving in together. I am glad to hear you two are doing well and also that Skylar’s rehab is going well. I hope to see her back in the ring soon. And I hope Freeman is able to recover and refocus. I really don’t know what he’s going through right now. I would suggest he try talking to Jade and his daughter, but I doubt that will work as well as we all hope or think.”
Amy smiles in anticipation.
Amy: “However, right now, it is you and I in the ring at Monday Night Mayhem, Craven, and like you I am looking forward to it.”
Amy: “There’s no rivalry or animosity between us. We are just two UWA wrestlers stepping into the ring to face each other one-on-one. Maybe you win and pin my shoulders to the mat like you did last year. Or maybe I kick your head off and beat you this time. But, if I do that, it won’t be personal, just part of the business we have both chosen to be in. Not sure how much of a difference that will make, regardless of outcome, but at least we both know what we are going to do to each other in the ring is not personal, just business.”
Amy: “After everything that happened with you and Sin Inc. and the Sin City Knights and the Children of Nephilim and Kyle Travis, and everything this year that I went through with Vince Jones, Lacey Roberts, Bob Brooks and being out for a few weeks, I think it would be safe to say that we have both had an interesting 2015. You wrestled only a handful of matches, which resulted in losses, and I lost two big matches and somehow ended up winning a title. We have both had an interesting 2015.”
Amy: “This is the kind of match we are both looking for. This is the match we both need. This is nothing on the line, just two competitors wrestling for nothing more than to see who can pick up the win. It’s simple, and simple is good.”
Amy: “So with that in mind, I still plan to make this a good one, Craven. The UWA Television Championship may not be on the line, and we may not be in the middle of a brutal or intense rivalry, but that doesn’t mean I’m going any easier on you, or taking this match lightly. I am going into this match the same way I go into every match, with the same level of focus, intensity, the same willingness to leave it all in the ring, and the same willingness to give everything I have, win, lose or draw.”
Amy: “So, Craven, at Monday Night Mayhem, I am going to go out into the ring and I am going to try to kick your head off. I am going to show you, everyone in the UWA, and all the fans, why I am simply Amy Zing.”
Still smiling, Amy makes her way to the door as the scene starts to fade to black.
Amy: “I will see you Monday, and I wish you good luck.”
The scene fades out.
