Workout day, this was not something Warrick Craven and Skylar Hansen had been able to have together in months. An injury had made Skylar unable to do much of anything physical but now the doctors have cleared her and she’s ready to go. The two make their way into their usual gym and take their places on matching treadmills side by side. They both pop matching pills as they set their speeds and hit the activation buttons.
Craven: Been a while since we got to do this together.
Skylar Hansen: Yeah ages, I miss this.
Craven smiles as they get going.
Craven: I got some treats in the car when we get done.
She almost purrs in happiness.
Skylar Hansen: Ohh, can't wait.
Craven chuckles as they job briskly.
Craven: Cindy seemed to really enjoy that the other night too.
Skylar Hansen: Indeed she did.
He takes a deep breath and focuses on the video screen before them playing a muted music video.
Craven: She ever tell you what her real dream was?
Skylar frowns.
Skylar Hansen: Her real dream?
He nods.
Craven: You know, like you wanna sing. I can't imagine the poor girl always wanted to be a stripper in Vegas.
Skylar thinks on this for a second.
Skylar Hansen: Actually she hasn’t, she's always just followed me and done what I've done, even when I didn’t want her to.
Craven nods understandingly.
Craven: That's what little sisters do, I spose.
He pauses, smiling almost vacantly.
Craven: Rocket used to tell me his all the time. He'd see me start to zone out and think I wasn't paying attention or that I was too stoned to remember.
Skylar Hansen: What was his dream?
Craven shrugs, still smiling.
Craven: His Dad wanted him to play football, right? Named him for two football players but Rocket wanted to find something that would let him meet a nice girl, settle down, have a family and all. He was all about the family part, white picket fence, whole nine yards. Used to ask me if he'd ever find the girl and get the fence, the dog and then 2.3 kids... usually ended with asking me what I wanted.
Skylar Hansen: And what did you want?
Craven: You.
She blushes deeply
Skylar Hansen: I'm flattered but surely you had more to live for that just me?
He shrugs.
Craven: I never really thought about it after you left. I just...
He pauses, realizing how stupid this sounds.
Craven: It's like that one Rascal Flatts video where the girl at the end says, "I saw you." because earlier her boyfriend had asked her what she saw when she dreamed and she didn't tell him until it was too late. I dreamed every night of that day where I'd finally...
He exhales heavily.
Craven: I wanted what he wanted... never really thought about how I was gonna get there, just that I wanted it to be you.
Skylar Hansen: Well you're half way there we just haven't got the kids or the picket fence yet.
Craven nods, chuckling.
Craven: Got time for that... though there are times I swear Rocket and Cindy... and to an extent, Brittany, might well be our kids even though they're not...
Skylar Hansen: Yeah, I think that too.
She pauses.
Skylar Hansen: Have you considered kids with me? Like how serious of a move that would be?
Craven nods.
Craven: Yeah, I have…
He pauses.
Craven: I know Rocket's actually talked about it with Cindy too.
Skylar Hansen: He has?
She smiles.
Skylar Hansen: He'd make a good father and so would you.
Craven nods.
Craven: Yeah, they didn’t know I was there but I heard them talking about one day after work. I was picking them up and Cindy was still in her stripper outfit. She basically admitted if they could afford it, she’d do it right now…
He pauses, glancing down to check his stats on the treadmill’s readout.
Craven: Has she always been that eager for kids?
Skylar Hansen: Yeah she has. She's always wanted to settle down and make a life for herself. She hated the constant running and moving.
Craven: I'd never seen Rocket like he was when he'd first scene her.
Skylar Hansen: I've never seen Sin as happy as she is with him.
He grins.
Craven: it's like getting to watch us from afar.
Skylar Hansen: I guess it is isn't it? they complete each other.
Craven: Almost makes ya wish he or I had a brother for Brittany, don't it?
She nods.
Skylar Hansen: Yeah it does.
Craven: Now that you've had time to think about it, what did you think of Rocket when you first met him... and what do you think of him now?
Skylar Hansen: he's a lot happier now and so is she. When I first met him I was a little worried. I was protective of Sin, but now... I trust him with her life.
Intrigued, he cocks his head inquisitively.
Craven: What were you worried about?
Skylar Hansen: I was just overprotective of her that's all. Like a father is for their daughter.
Craven nods.
Craven: My only concern at the time…
He pauses and then nods acknowledgingly.
Craven: Ok, I had two concerns at first.
Skylar Hansen: What was that?
He shrugs, looking slightly ashamed.
Craven: First, and it's gonna sound hilariously stupid coming from me, but it was her drug use.
Skylar Hansen: Really?
He nods.
Craven: Yeah... because he was more or less not on them at all and she…
Skylar Hansen: That's true.
Craven takes a deep breath as they continue jogging on the treadmills.
Craven: The other one was me…
Skylar Hansen: You?
He nods.
Craven: As much as I would tell him, "You be careful, don't fuck this up." I was half-convinced I'd already fucked it up for him before he ever got to start it. I was like, "They're gonna find out he's with me, and she'll never want anything to do with him because she'll think it was all a lie and I'm gonna wanna blow my fucking head off for doing that to him."
Skylar Hansen: Oh… I see…
Craven: Kinda worried I'd ruined him anyway telling' him about you and filling his head with all my worries.
Skylar Hansen: Well worry not, you haven't ruined anybody.
Craven smiles, nodding slowly.
Craven: I spose I can hope that's true.
Skylar Hansen: Well I, for one, aren't ruined.
Craven: Let's hope I can keep it that way, what with matches with the likes of Kyle Travis and the World Champion.
Skylar Hansen: Yeah you get the World Champion this week don't you? Have you faced her before?
He shakes his head.
Craven: Not like this, no. A six-person in June with Sang Real, I ate it bad.
Skylar Hansen: From her?
He frowns.
Craven: No, I watched them pin Gabriel Krown.
He shrugs.
Craven: I more or less let them do it too.
Skylar Hansen: And they would have deserved it too.
He nods shamefully.
Craven: They did but... I still just stood there and let the pin happen. Not one of my more mature moments, was it?
Skylar Hansen: We all have moments like that.
He nods.
Craven: Yeah, I spose...
As they start to slow down, Craven looks over to Skylar.
Craven: You did an amazing job with her. Cindy, I mean, you’ve done an amazing job of taking care of her and helping her become a woman when, by all rights, she should be a statistic and some story about finding the body face down in the rain.
Skylar Hansen: Good job with Rocket too, Dude.
Craven: Thanks... now we can hope I at least manage to earn the Champ's respect.
Skylar Hansen: Here's hoping.
They come to a stop and step off the machines.
Craven: What do you feel like now?
Skylar Hansen: Let’s do some weights.
Craven smiles.
Craven: Gonna see if you can push yourself, are ya?
Skylar Hansen: Yeah.
He nods.
Craven: Ok… let’s see what you can do, Baby.
He kisses her lovingly.
Craven: I love you.
She smiles.
Skylar Hansen: I love you too.
Craven: Been a while since we got to do this together.
