On a large field outside woods is a large white tent, trailers, cameras, boom mics and everything one would expect to find on a production set. A table is set up with various prop weapons set upon it. A fully tacked horse swishes its tail while another horse is being hooked up to a chariot.
Inside a large pavilion has been set up couches and chairs and a make up table. Seated on the one of the couch is “the Hong Kong Sensation” Amy Zing reading Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep. Amy is dressed in what looks to be a yellow sundress. A sun hat sits next to her.
UWA ring announcer Jamie Hensley walks into the pavilion and spots Amy.
Jamie: “Hey.”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” looks up and smiles as she sees Jamie. She gets to her feet and hugs the ring announcer.
Amy: “Hi there. I didn’t know you were going to be here.”
The two women break their brief hug. Amy sits down and places a book mark in her book before closing it.
Jamie: “Yeah. How are you?”
Amy: “I’m doing well. How are you?”
Jamie: “Fine.”
Amy: “How was your holiday?”
Jamie: “Good. I spent the holidays with family. How was yours?”
Amy: “It was good. I don’t really do Christmas, but New Years was pretty fun. Of course I have a Chinese New Year’s in February, so I have that to look forward to. I got to celebrate 2015 and then I have 2128 and the Year of the Horse to look forward to.”
Jamie: “That good. That a new book?”
UWA’s ring announcer points to the book in Amy’s lap.
Amy: “Yeah. I got it a few weeks ago.”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” looks down at the book and picks it up.
Jamie: “Any good?”
Amy: “Yeah, it’s not too bad.”
Amy sets the book down next to her and looks at Jamie, who takes a seat on the other couch.
Amy: “So what are you doing here?”
Jamie: “I have to narrate this thing. What about you?”
Amy: “I’m in the commercial. I have to skip through that field with a basket and come upon like half the roster just swinging weapons around like the bloody Crusades or The Lord of the Rings or something. I pull a sword out of the basket, say a line and then join the fray. Seems a bit extreme to me, but what do I know?”
Jamie: “Well it is Spring Slaughter, so I suppose it does somehow make sense to do the promo in this style.”
Amy: “I suppose so.”
Jamie: “I saw all those weapons lying around over there.”
The former UWA Television Champion shifts a bit and glances over to the table with the various prop weapons sitting on it.
Amy: “Yeah, I think Aerynn gets the battleaxe, Travis has that broadsword over there, and Sang Réal are going to get the spears. I think the Cornbread Mafia are getting the maces, but I am not sure. I saw them here somewhere. Not sure who is riding the horse with the lance. That may be Silver Baron, but not sure. I am pretty sure K.I.S.S. gets that chariot with the bow and arrow. I am not sure if either Bethany or Ashley knows how to steer a chariot, but then again, would Silver Baron even know how to ride a horse? I doubt anyone here actually knows how to use any of these weapons. Yes, I own a jian, and I use it for Thai Chi, but I really doubt in an end of days scenario like something out of Mad Max or The Walking Dead or something that I would be able to use it to save my life. I just hope no one gets hurt. I think it would be really tragic if one of us gets shot with an arrow or gets limb hacked off or falls off a horse and injures ourselves just for the sake of promoting a pay-per-view. That would be a really terrible reason for someone’s career to end, having a limb chopped or crashing a chariot off doing a commercial. Sure, people get hurt doing television or commercials, but really, not how a wrestler wants their career to end, not that anyone wants their career to end mind you. I am fairly certain all those weapons are props, so we should be fine.”
Jamie: “Amy, you’re rambling.”
Amy stops talking and closes her eyes, trying not to look embarrassed and she shifts in her seat again. She takes a deep breath and exhales slowly, reopening her eyes.
Amy: “Sorry about that.”
Jamie: “It’s okay.”
Amy: “Thanks.”
Jamie: “Speaking of, are you nervous?”
Amy: “About what? Doing this commercial? No. I am a little shocked that the UWA asked me to do it, but I am flattered really. I think I know my lines well enough.”
Jamie: “No, I meant speaking of K.I.S.S. are you nervous about Monday Night and having to fight Ashley for the North American Championship?”
Amy: “Oh! That!”
Jamie: “Yes, that.”
Amy nods.
Amy: “Oh God yes I’m nervous. But, you know, someone once told me if you were not nervous before a big match, then there is something wrong with you, so I suppose it is good that I am nervous.”
Jamie: “Yeah, it would be weird if you were not.”
Amy nods in agreement to that assessment.
Amy: “Well it is only Ashley Kenyon, one of the top wrestlers in the UWA, and the North American Championship, a title she spent two months trying to win, so yeah, I think it’s a safe to say that I am nervous. I honestly have no idea how I even earned this match. I would expect someone else like Broderick Montgomery or Sentinel or someone like that, not me.”
Jamie: “Please, you are one of the most popular wrestlers here. People love you.”
The former UWA Television Champion and Playboy cover girl shrugs.
Amy: “I really never understood why people like me so much. It’s not like I win a lot of matches or I’m really all that good on the mic. Truth be told, if I didn’t have to pick up another mic in my career, I wouldn’t mind.”
Jamie: “You’re not that bad.”
Amy: “Please. People keep saying every time I speak, I seem to have no passion or fire or drive. Half the time I just start rambling, and I don’t even know I am doing it. I don’t even know why I am doing it either. It makes no sense. I keep saying I should stop doing or maybe get some help to try and stop doing, but I never actually do anything to stop myself from doing it and I have no idea why I keep putting it off. Then again, I really have no idea who I would even go to deal with a problem like that, if it is even a problem. I really doubt a psychologist could help, because I am not sure it is psychological and I am not sure if speech therapist could be any more helpful, because I can speak English, so I doubt it’s in their area of expertise. I really do not know who to talk to about it.”
Jamie: “Amy, you’re rambling again.”
Again, Amy stops talking and closes her eyes. She takes another deep breath and exhales slowly. She opens her eyes.
Amy: “See what I mean? I’m not a great talker.”
Jamie: “Hey, a lot of people were never great talkers and made it. Look at Sentinel. Talon does all his talking for him and he’s been on a roll.”
Amy: “Yeah, that was quite shocking to hear him speak at Cataclysm. I honestly thought he was mute.”
Jamie: “Did you really?”
Amy giggles a bit.
Amy: “Yes! I’ve watched the guy for like three years and never heard him say a thing.”
Jamie: “Huh. Weird.”
Amy: “I know.”
Jamie: “But still, you’re not that bad. Everyone goes out and acts like they are so much better than their opponent, but you come off sincere. I think people respond to that. And you’re nice, it’s different. And hey, what you don’t have on the mic, you make up for it in the ring.”
Making a face that seems a combination of a pout and confusion, Amy raises an eyebrow at that statement.
Amy: “I make up for it in the ring? How is that supposed to make me feel better? I think I have lost at least three times as many matches as I have won in my career.”
Jamie: “Maybe, but you are exciting to watch. Even Ashley said so. A lot of people have.”
Amy: “Thanks.”
Jamie: “Plus you are an underdog, which people love, and they respond to that never give up attitude of yours.”
Amy: “Well that makes me feel better. Still I would like to think I merit a title opportunity for reasons other than I am really popular with the fans.”
Jamie: “Well you did a lot of appearances before Cataclysm.”
Amy: “That’s true.”
Jamie: “And you do represent the UWA very well.”
Amy: “Well thank you.”
Jamie: “And can you imagine how loud those people will cheer if you win the match. They’ll blow the roof off the place.”
Leaning her head back, Ashley looks up at the pavilion above her.
Amy: “I dunno. Ashley is pretty popular as well. I really do not get a mixed reaction from a crowd that often. Actually, I don’t recall how long it has been since it’s happened. This is going to be weird hearing the crowd cheer for her and boo me.”
Jamie: “They are not going to boo you.”
Amy: “How do you know?”
Jamie: “Have they ever?”
Amy lifts her head up and shakes it.
Amy: “No, not really.”
Jamie: “Exactly.”
Amy: “But they might. I really doubt I will get a huge ovation if I win.”
Jamie: “I am sure they will cheer their heads off if you win. People love and underdog and you said yourself that this would be a huge upset win. I mean, you think you can win this match, right?”
Amy: “Well yeah. I go out thinking I can win every match, but that doesn’t mean I am going to win, you know? I thought I would beat Lacey at Cataclysm, but that didn’t work out as well for me as I would have liked.”
Jamie: “It could have gone either way really.”
Amy: “I know. It’s still a bit disappointing though. She’s an arrogant tart who acts like she is better than everyone else. I really don’t care for her.”
Jamie: “It was a close match. You shouldn’t obsess over it.”
Amy: “I’m not. I just would have liked to beat have beaten her. I really don’t like arrogant people or bullies and I wanted to take Lacey down a peg. She needs it. I would love to have another shot at her, with or without the title.”
Lacey: “Well she’s got O’Conner this week, so it may happen. Still you had 119 days as a champion, that’s a decent run.”
Amy: “Yeah.”
Lacey: “Maybe you’ll do even better as the North American Champion.”
Amy: “If I can win the title. Ashley Kenyon is one of the toughest wrestlers in the UWA. She’s the UWA’s only dual champion, and she beat a really tough guy in Vince Jones. This is a pretty big “if” Jamie. Actually it is a giant “if”. Still, it would be an amazing upset.”
Jamie: “Well if anyone can pull off an amazing upset, it would be Amy Zing.”
Amy smiles a bit.
Amy: “That’s clever. I should use that.”
Jamie: “I don’t think it would work on a t-shirt.”
Amy: “Maybe not. Geez, speaking of, I really cannot believe people buy my shirts.”
Jamie: “Face it, you’re popular.”
Amy: “This is is going to be a huge mountain of a match. I have no idea how, out of an entire roster, I got chosen to face one of the best in the UWA. I’d like to say we’re still banged up form Cataclysm, but it’s been about three weeks, so we should be mostly healed by the time the match happens, which is good, because we’re going to be on equal footing as far as health is concerned. It’s everything else that has the disadvantage.”
Jamie: “Oh stop that. You’re a star here in UWA. You could definitely be the world champion some day.”
Amy: “That would be smashing really. But I doubt it’ll happen any time soon. Still, I have to admit, it would be something to main event next year’s Tragic Engagement either as champion or challenger. I would be something to win the world title. I doubt my reign would be long, but still, it would be quite the accomplishment, wouldn’t it?”
Jamie: “Yeah, just like it would be if you can win the North American Championship from Ashley.”
Amy: “These are easier said than done. Ashley is one of the best in the UWA. She’s definitely not giving up that championship without a fight.”
Jamie: “And when have you never fought for something?”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” leans forward in her seat a bit. She has a look of determination on her face, like she is ready to take this match on and regardless of its outcome will hold her head up high afterwards because she just went for it.
Amy: “Well yeah, but that still doesn’t mean I am not walking out there to get my ass kicked. Then again, that’s never stopped me either. This is a great opportunity against one of the UWA’s best and someone I respect and it’s going to be one smashing good match. There’s no animosity, no hatred, no real intense rivalry here. It’s just two wrestlers going at it for a title, and either way, the fans win and that’s really I think the best part. Sure, I would love to be North American Champion, but I’ll settle for taking Ashley to her absolute limit if I can. So with that in mind, I am going to do what I do every time I got to that ring and I am going to give it everything I have, try to kick Ashley’s head off and show her why I am simply Amy Zing, because, honestly, it really is all that I know how to do, but I like to think I do it well enough. Win, lose or draw, I will show Ashley Kenyon why I am simply Amy Zing.”
At this point one of the members the production crew steps in to the pavilion.
Gofer: “You’re wanted on the set Miss Zing.”
Amy: “Thank you.”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” gets to her feet, smoothing out the dress and picking the hat up. She places the hat on her head, adjusting it a bit so it fits more comfortably on her head. She picks up the book and turns to Jamie.
Amy: “We should get together after filming.”
Jamie: “Yeah, that’d be great.”
Amy: “I’ll see you then.”
Jamie: “Good luck.”
A small smile forms on Amy’s face.
Amy: “Good luck for this or Monday?”
Jamie: “Both.”
Amy: “Thanks.”
With that, Amy turns and walks off to film the commercial, handing the book to the gofer. The scene fades out as Jamie gets back to her feet and exits the pavilion.
