It is early morning in San Francisco, California. Inside a nearly empty gym, very few people are inside, mostly people just working out inside.
“The Hong Kong Sensation” sits on a gym mat near a punching bag. She is dressed in shorts and a sports bra under a tank top. Her legs are crossed, and her hands rest on her knees, pointing up. Her thumbs touch her index and middle fingers. Her eyes are closed and her breathing is steady.
She seems to be meditating, trying to focus. This is somewhat unusual to see the usually fast paced, active, rambling Amy attempting to maintain a level of focus and concentration. Either that or she’s asleep sitting up.
“I would be lying if I said I was not looking forward to this match, because I really am looking forward to this match because it is an amazing opportunity to team with a newcomer against two of the best wrestlers, the best tag team, in the UWA. This is somewhat of a dream come true, and a match I just cannot help be excited for.”
She opens her eyes, thus proving she was not asleep and actually meditating.
“It is interesting that I am teaming with Artemis in this match. I may be wrong, but I do believe that this may be her debut match. I am really not sure about that, but I think it is. I know I have seen her around, but I do not recall seeing her make her in-ring debut. Admittedly, I have been rather busy and kind of distracted with all the Tragic Engagement stuff, so I really haven’t been paying attention to everything else going on in the UWA. That’s really just mostly due to having a busy schedule. I may have to think about cutting back, but I really doubt I am going to do that. And also, I have been dealing with a bit of a few disappointing weeks these last few months with a series of loses. So yeah, I have not really paid attention to whether or not Artemis has actually wrestled in the ring and I feel a bit bad about that considering I am teaming with her. And this is rather an odd team up with her and me considering she is somehow involved with Cole Hunter, who arguably stole a win from me two weeks ago, though I cannot argue that it was a smart move and totally fair in a triple threat environment, but I could be wrong. Still, seems an odd combination.”
Realizing she is rambling, Amy stops talking and closes her eyes. She takes a deep breath and exhales slowly, then opens her eyes.
“Sorry about that.”
Amy shifts position, stretching out those legs of hers which make up majority of her offense with devastating kicks.
“Pretty sure it’s that Artemis though. I mean, Artemis cannot be that common a name in this day and age. Now that is not saying there are not people named Artemis out there, but I don’t think I have met one. Then again, there are a lot of names out there I have not met. Though it is not often you see someone named after a Greek god, or a goddess in this case, though Artemis seems like one someone would use, as does Apollo and maybe Hera. I have never met a Poseidon or Hades or Zeus, but for all I know, there is someone out there with those names as a first name. At least I assume that Artemis shares the name with the goddess, because I really doubt I am teaming with the actual goddess, although I have to admit that that would be really an awesome experience. But I am pretty sure the Artemis I am teaming with is not that Artemis.”
Once again, Amy realizes she is rambling now and again, she closes her eyes. Taking a deep breath, she exhales slowly and opens her eyes, looking a bit embarrassed at rambling again.
“I do not know why I keep doing that. I really do not. I should work on it, but, as many times as I say that, I never seem to get around to it.”
Amy shrugs.
“Oh well.”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” taps her chin in thought.
“Where was I?”
Amy stops tapping her chin and snaps her fingers.
“Oh right! I was talking about myself and Artemis facing K.I.S.S. in a match at this upcoming episode of Monday Night Mayhem. How did I forget that?”
She shakes her head and sighs. An eager smile forms on her face as she gets to her feet, stretching out to stay loose.
“As I said, I am looking forward to this match. Despite what a certain team says, I personally believe K.I.S.S. is the best team in the UWA. They are certainly the most decorated, having held every title here with exception of the Television Championship. I may be wrong, but I believe that they have beaten just about every team they have faced in the ring since their debut. So, yes, I am definitely looking forward to this match.”
“Ashley and Bethany, you two are the best the UWA has to offer. I’ve said it before, and having been in the ring with you two, I am absolutely convinced of that being more fact than opinion. You’ve pretty much done it all here.”
“You two have beaten pretty every team in the UWA, and both of you rose to the top of the UWA. Artemis and I are not a tag team. We have never teamed before in the UWA or anywhere. As a matter of fact, I have never actually met Artemis, let alone talked to her. The first time I meet her will be this week at Monday Night Mayhem. You two are sisters; you know each other as well as you know yourselves. Artemis and I do not have that.”
“I will admit that I have been in a scenario like this before, teaming with someone I never met before when I actually made it to a big wrestling promotion during my ACW debut, when I teamed with Dahlia. It was actually kind of sweet, because at the time she was going through a lot of things, and she walks up to me with a stuffed bear and half a box of cookies before the match and we became friends. We won the match. I still have that bear. And we are still close, talking a lot and I make appearances for a charity she started. And honestly, I’d love to see her in the UWA.”
She smiles at that memory, but the smile quickly fades as she makes a bit of a pouty face due to the fact that it is unlikely to happen again in this case.
“However, I have doubts that such a thing will happen again between me and Artemis at Mayhem.”
She sighs and shakes her head, trying to focus on the match and her work out.
“Now Artemis, we may not end up friends. For all I know, we could become the most bitter of enemies. But for right now, we are to team up at Mayhem against K.I.S.S. And we are definitely the underdogs in this match. But that’s fine. I have spent a career as the underdog, the long shot, and I am not about to stop now. A win over K.I.S.S. would be a huge upset, but at the same time it may possibly open doors for either me or for Artemis and we would be remiss not to take an opportunity when presented to us.”
“I think it would be safe to say that if Artemis or I can pin either of you, and I will admit that doing so is easier said that done, but if, and that is an emphasis on the “if”, if one of us pins either of you, then that has to move us up the ladder into title contention because you two have the two belts that everyone here really seems to want more than any other title. Personally, I would not be opposed to getting a shot at either of those titles. I will admit that I have had a chance at the North American Championship, and I would like another, and I have never had a shot at any world championship ever.”
She turns to the bag and shifts her stance. She is almost studying it like she would an opponent, looking for an opening to strike. She shifts a bit, like she seems to have found one, and then shifts again, as if she found a better angle of attack.
“Weirdly though, despite a bit of ambition, part of me feels a bit conflicted, because I have a lot of respect for the both of you. You’re both amazing competitors, and you have been very nice to me since I arrived, which I really do appreciate as it takes me awhile to really make friends when I’m the new girl. I don’t know why. But, you two have been great. And that’s why I am so conflicted. As nice as you two have been, as much as I respect you, I really want to beat you in that ring.”
Amy nails a roundhouse to the back, then spins and hits a back roundhouse to the bag. She spins back and nails another roundhouse. Her leg impacts the bag with a decent echoing impact.
“I know that beating K.I.S.S. in a tag team match or even the two of you in singles matches is easier said than done, but I really do not care. I have always ascribed to the idea that our belief defines our reality, in that if someone believes something is possible, then that something can be made into a reality. Maybe it is cliché to say that dreams come true, but I truly and honestly believe in that because I dreamed I could be a wrestler, I believed I could make it as a wrestler and it’s happened. I believe Artemis and I can beat K.I.S.S.”
There is a determination in her eyes, even as she smiles a bit.
“It can be argued that you and I have unfinished business Ashley. I don’t know about you, but I feel a bit cheated that Vince Jones had to interfere in the match you and I had a few weeks back. I however hold no ill will towards you for taking advantage and finishing me off because you didn’t notice I was attacked by Vince Jones because you didn’t know it happened. Admittedly, I would have done the same thing, just would have felt bad about it afterwards and try to get you a rematch. Still, I would love to step into the ring with you again and see if I can actually beat you.”
“Do you remember Ashley, before our match, you called yourself an underdog? To be honest, I never actually agreed with that statement. You, Ashley, are not an underdog and you never have been. Trust me when I am telling you this because I am an underdog. You are not. I am more surprised when you lose a match, and I may still be surprised if it happens at Mayhem, and I am going to be there to help cause it.”
“I honestly believe I can beat you Ashley. I don’t care if there is a title on the line or not, and I know you and Tedman are going to have some sort of match to settle the North American Championship issue, or there may be a tournament or something, I don’t know and I do not really care at the moment. I absolutely believe that I am capable of beating you in the ring and I am more than willing to try at Monday Night Mayhem to make it happen. Whether or not it puts me in the North American Championship hunt or not, I don’t care. I just want to prove to myself that I can beat you.”
“I have never been a world heavyweight champion. I have never had a world heavyweight championship title match. The closest I have ever come is stepping in the ring with a former world heavyweight champion. This is the first time, Bethany, that I will ever be in the ring with a current reigning world heavyweight champion and I am going to take fully advantage of it.”
“You handed me my first loss in the UWA, remember? I leapt across the ring and you nailed me with that kick, and pinned me. I will admit that it was an ironic way for me to lose, taking a kick like that and then getting pinned considering all I do is kicks and high risk moves, but I can’t stand here and say that there is any shame in losing to you Bethany.”
“Now maybe I never get a world title shot and maybe I never become world champion. I will not deny that I would love a world title shot, or that I would love to become a world champion, but if it never happens, I think I would be okay with that. I had no delusions that I would walk into Tragic Engagement this year as the challenger in the UWA World Heavyweight Championship match, but I was glad to see that it was you Bethany, and I was thrilled to see you win, no offense Jeszika. It was a great match.”
Somehow, despite that revelation, “the Hong Kong Sensation” does not sound the least bit bitter about it. On the contrary, she sounds more eager than anything. This truly is the first chance she’s ever had to step into the ring with a current reigning and defending world champion in her career.
“But you are the UWA World Heavyweight Champion Bethany, and this is the first time I have ever been in the ring with a world champion. You’ll excuse me then Bethany if I take the opportunity and give you everything I have. I want to step into the ring with the best and you, right now, Bethany Kenyon, the UWA World Heavyweight Champion, are the best the UWA has to offer right now. So, I am going to give it everything I have, because I believe I can beat you Bethany.”
“Artemis, as I said, we’ve never met, and we’re definitely underdogs going into this match, but that’s really never stopped me before and it’s not going to stop me now. I have no idea what will happen at Monday Night Mayhem, but I do know I am going to give this match everything I have, win, lose or draw and leave it all out there like I do every night I step into the ring to compete and I expect you to do the same.”
She throws a few kicks at the bag. Amy stops, watching the bag sway a bit. She takes a deep breath, her hands closing in fists. She tries to look fierce, determined to make the most out of the opportunity she has presented to her, best represented by her old “if I have to crash and burn, then I am going out in a blaze of glory” mentality that still pops up now and then. This is one of those times.
“It is our belief that defines our reality. I believed I could become a wrestler, and I did. I believed that, despite set back after setback, failure after failure, I would one day become a champion, and I did. People told me I would never make it in wrestling, and here I am a wrestler with millions of fans around the world who I thank every day for standing by me and supporting me. They said I would never become a champion and I proved so many people wrong by doing what they said was impossible for me to do when I became a champion, not once, but twice. I believed I could do it and I made it a reality.”
“I believe that dreams come true. I believe the Jules Verne quote that “nothing is impossible, only improbable”. And, as I said, I believe our belief defines our reality because I know if I believe it can be done, then I am going to try and make it happen.”
“I believe I can beat you Ashley Kenyon. I believe I can beat you Bethany Kenyon. Now it is a matter of making that belief into a reality and at Monday Night Mayhem, I am going to do everything I can to make that happen. It may be easier said than done, but it is not impossible, only improbable.”
“Going into Monday Night Mayhem, Ashley and Bethany, I am sure everyone is going to say that it is impossible for me and Artemis to beat you, but I do not believe in the impossible, and I am going to do everything I can to prove that the impossible can happen.”
She shifts her stance and blasts the bag with a high speed kick. It starts to sway like a pendulum. She stops kicking it, staring at the swaying bag as it swings, waiting for it to stop.
“Now maybe Artemis and I do the impossible and somehow, we beat the best team, the best the UWA has, in what will undoubtedly be the biggest upset in history. Then again, maybe we lose, and the impossible does not happen. Personally, I believe we can beat you, and I am going to do the best I can to make it happen. I am going to that ring and I am going to try to kick someone’s head off and I am going to show the two of you why I am simply Amy Zing.”
The bag finally starts to slow down and finally stops swinging. “The Hong Kong Sensation” smiles and starts to throw a few more kicks at the bag as hard and as fast as she can. Each kick seems to echo with the impact.
“I wish you two good luck, not that either of you need it, but I will still wish you good luck. I will see you all at Monday Night Mayhem.”
The scene fades out as Amy keeps kicking the bag, training for this huge match.
