The UWA’s corporate offices are rather busy today. Many people are coming and going in and out of the building. Wrestlers, executives, and other personnel exit and enter the building for various reasons.
Inside the commissary, numerous employees are busy eating or getting food or clearing their plate away. At one of the tables sits “the Hong Kong Sensation” Amy Zing, picking at some chocolate chip cookies on her tray, which also has a bottle of iced tea upon it.
As she picks at the cake, Jamie Hensley, the UWA ring announcer walks up to her table having spotted her first.
Jamie: “Hey Amy.”
Amy looks up from the cookie she broke a piece off of and smiles at the sight of her friend.
Amy: “Hi Jamie. Take a seat. How are you doing?”
Without further invitation, Jamie sits down. She is eating light, a salad with grilled chicken. She seems to eye the cookies on Amy’s plate, but says nothing of it.
Jamie: “Thanks. I’m doing alright. How are you?”
Amy: “I’m doing well, I guess.”
Jamie: “What are you doing here?”
Amy: “I have a meeting with merchandise at one. Still have a ton of shirts left over from a few places that can be sold and they want to show me some things. What about you?
”
Jamie: “Oh, they have me here for some audio on the best of 2015 DVD.”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” raises an eyebrow at that, finding it rather curious.
Amy: “I would have thought Lula and Chase would be doing that.”
Jamie: “Not too sure who is hosting it. I just do some narration.”
Amy: “Oh? That sounds pretty cool. Do you know any of the matches on the DVD?”
Amy nibbles a bit of the cookies she is picking at.
Jamie: “Yeah. I think that whole Jeszika Gautier, Arsenal and Broderick Montgomery III versus the Children of Nephilim feud is on the DVD. I know the inaugural UWA World Heavyweight, North American, Tag Team and Television Championship matches are as well.”
"The Hong Kong Sensation" tries not to make a face at of the the first Television Championship match.
Amy: “Oh.”
Jamie: “What’s wrong?”
Amy looks a bit surprised by the question.
Amy: “Nothing, why?”
Jamie’s eyes move to the cookies on Amy’s plate, then to “the Hong Kong Sensation” herself, looking concerned.
Jamie: “Come on Amy, I’ve known you for a few years and I know when you are down, so what’s going on?”
Amy: “Nothing.”
Jamie: “Amy.”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” sighs a bit.
Amy: “Fine. I’m just feeling a little bit down you know? I mean I lost two really big matches I would rather not have lost and it gets kind of frustrating, you know? It seems a get that one really big win and I just never seem to recapture that. I get that one moment, that one chance to make history, but I seem to fall short every single time I get that second chance. It took me forever to win the APW North American Champion, had one successful title defense and then spent months with a title only to lose it on the last show APW ever had. Then I come here and almost immediately win the Television Championship, which I am still not sure how I even got into that match considering I had a record of one win and three losses, and yet, somehow, I won the match. I won and spent weeks with a title I didn’t defend, which was sort of disappointing, and then lose it to Lacey Roberts, who quite literally just walked up to me, told me I did not deserve the title and that she was going to take it from me, which she did, which was a bit humiliating. Then I get a chance to win the UWA North American Championship, which I lost, and I may have lost that match anyway, but I am never going to know because Vince Jones cost me the match and then acts like I am nothing to him, barely worth his time, and he goes on to beat me at Tragic Engagement, which did kind of prove him right. And it’s not helping that it keeps happening, because it kind of makes me wonder about those big wins I had and I wonder why I can’t make it happen again, and I know I shouldn’t force them, but it still gets to me each time. So I am just down and frustrated and I guess it is starting to get to me that I can get like one really great moment and then I can not seem to get it back, and I just keep going for it, hoping that I can maybe recapture that momentum or get some of it back, but it just doesn’t seem to want to come together for me.”
Realizing that she is rambling, “the Hong Kong Sensation” closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She exhales slowly and opens her eyes. All the time she was rambling, Jamie was taking a bit of her salad.
Amy: “Sorry.”
Jamie: “No, it’s fine.”
Amy: “Thanks.”
Jamie: “Feel better?”
Jamie takes a drink from the water bottle on her tray.
Amy: “Actually yeah, I do feel a little better.”
Jamie: “Good.”
Amy: “Thanks.”
Jamie: “I think you’ll be fine. You’re in a slump. It happens.”
Amy: “Happens to me a lot.”
Jamie: “Well, maybe you’ll be able to turn it around soon and you can make that climb to the top.”
Amy smiles and shakes her head.
Amy: “Jamie, I know I am never going to be the UWA World Heavyweight Champion. It’s not going to happen. I would like to believe I am good enough to become the UWA Champion, but it’s not going to happen.”
The UWA ring announcer looks a bit shocked at that statement from the usually optimistic Amy Zing.
Jamie: “You don’t know that.”
Amy: “Yes, I do.”
Jamie: “No you don’t.”
Amy: “Yes, I do.”
Jamie: “Why can’t you be the UWA World Heavyweight Champion?”
Amy: “I am not going to somehow end up in a number one contender match for UWA Championship over people like Aerynn Donnelly, Jeszika Gautier, Sentinel or a guy like Vince Jones. And I doubt I am going to get into a scenario where my fans occupy the ring until I get a championship opportunity, and I do not have Twitter, so I do not see there being something like hashtag GiveAmyAChance or whatever, and I definitely do not see any UWA Champion selecting me to get the title shot at a pay-per-view. As much as I would like it to happen, I know I am not going to become UWA Champion. I have never had a world championship match in my career and I doubt I will, so I learned to live with it.”
Jamie: “Come on; don’t get so down on yourself. You could get a world title shot.”
Amy: “I really doubt Bethany is going to give me a shot over her sister Ashley, or her best friend Jeszika or even her boyfriend Broderick. And I am sure the UWA have a list of people to challenge her at Spring Slaughter. And even if I somehow gained the shot, I’m pretty sure someone would interfere in the match, so I would rather not have someone cost me another title match.”
Jamie: “Well pretty sure your fans want to see you get that shot.”
Amy smiles a bit.
Amy: “Yeah. I am amazed they keep cheering me.”
Jamie: “Why?”
Amy: “Because I am half expecting them to realize I’m not as good as they think I am. I know how good I am, but they seem to think I am better than that. Really all I am is a nice, polite girl with a lot of kicks and a never give up, never say die attitude. You would think someone would get tired of that. I mean we’ve seen it happen before.”
Jamie: “Well yeah, but they know what they mean to you and they cheer you for that.”
Jamie takes another bite of her salad.
Amy: “Yeah, I know they do. I am grateful for every day they cheer me on when I walk out there, every time they chant my name when I am in that ring. I’m truly thankful that they continue to support me and stand by me through the highs and lows of my career, and there have probably been a lot more lows than there have been highs. But they continue to stand by me and I feel blessed to have such loyal fans. Sometimes, though, I just feel like I am not the wrestler they deserve. I give them everything I have, but I feel like I could do better, like I can be better for them.”
Jamie: “You’re the best they can get. No one I know cares about their fans as much as you.”
Amy: “Thanks.”
Jamie looks up, seeing UWA backstage announcer Maria Zalis walk by holding a cup of coffee. She waves to her. Amy turns to see who Jamie is waving to and waves at Maria as well. Seeing the two women waving at her, Maria heads over to them and takes a seat.
Jamie: “Hey Maria.”
Maria: “Hey Amy, Jamie. How are you doing?”
Jamie: “I’m good.”
Amy: “Fine. How are you?”
Maria: “Good. Oh, Amy, you hear about your match this week?”
Amy: “No, I haven’t.”
Maria: “You’re facing Dickie Tramel and Cole Hunter in a triple threat match.”
Amy: “Huh? That kind of feels full circle in a way.”
Maria: “How do you figure?”
Amy: “Well it’s been about a year since I came to the UWA and I made my debut in a triple threat match, so it is sort of full circle in a way. I mean, granted, it has not been a full year since I debuted, although it may be close, but I don’t think it’s been a full year yet, but it is close. That was a one was a pretty good match against Skylar and Ashley Kenyon. I lost that one, which was a bit depressing, but I think it would be more so for Skylar, because that was her last match before her injury. I am not saying Ashley or I injured her, but it was her last match before the injury, so I am not too sure. I don’t actually know what her injury is, or when it happened, but she’s been out for like a year. That’s got to be disappointing. I’ve been very lucky to avoid a major injury in my career.”
Once again, Amy realizes she is rambling. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath in and then exhales slowly, opening her eyes.
Amy: “Sorry about that.”
Jamie: “It’s fine.”
Maria smiles a bit.
Maria: “So, are you nervous?”
Amy: “No. It’s just a weird choice of match. I mean when was the last time any of us won a match, huh? I am not even sure if either Cole or Dickie has won a match since their debut. Granted, I am not exactly one to talk about wining matches with my record, but still, I am not sure if they’ve won since they got here. Of course it took me awhile to get my first win here, so they may be slow to start.”
Jamie: “I am not sure what their records are actually.”
Maria: “Me neither.”
Amy: “It’s weird that I would be the veteran in this match, but I doubt a win on my part would be an upset. Still though, I am looking forward to the match. It is going to be interesting to say the least. All three of us want to pick up the win, so I would expect it to be a competitive match between three people who have something to prove.”
Amy holds up her hand before Jamie or Maria can say anything.
Amy: “And don’t say we don’t. Cole and Dickie are still kind of new and you know they want to climb the ladder and get some success. I wouldn’t mind a win. I feel like I have something to prove. Maybe this match is not the “big one” I need, but I still feel like I have to prove something to myself, and for all the people that keep cheering me on. We’re the opening match to Monday Night Mayhem, and I want to give those people watching either at home or in the arena something to just kick off the night right, you know?”
Jamie: “Yeah I get it.”
Maria: “It makes sense to me.”
Amy: “So the three of us are going to go out there and, personally, I know I am going to give it my all, and I hope I can say the same about Cole and Dickie. I am going to kick someone’s head off and I am going to show Dickie, Cole and everyone why I am simply Amy Zing.”
Just then, the alarm on Amy’s cellphone starts to beep. She takes her phone out of her pocket and looks at it. She slips it back in and gets up.
Amy: “I got to get to my appointment. I’ll see you guys later.”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” takes a napkin and folds the cookies inside it and slips into her purse for later. She gets to her feet.
Jamie: “See you.”
Maria: “Have a good day.”
Amy: “I’ll see you guys Monday. Have a great day.”
“The Hong Kong Sensation” walks picks up her tray and walks away from the table as the scene fades out.
